Man is traceable to an origin, emanating from where and what is being passed down from generation to generations. This possession is maintained and it tells the behavior and pattern of individual in a particular habitat. It's called culture. Culture tell of where we belong and who we are. In a region where there is diversity of culture, such as Nigeria. Men can be distinguished by their language and culture.
My culture reminds me of my ancestral land. It's celebrated annually and it's called "new yam festival" or "Leboku". Sons and daughters of the land come back to pay homage and also celebrate with the elders of the land. Young maidens showcase their beauty by walking around the land and by so doing, they call out for potential men.
The young men also parade around with sticks in search of young maidens, a non-maiden who be flogged if found outside.
Old men dance around with feathers, broom and chewing in thankfulness for another harvest.
The older women harvest yams and vegetables for celebration.
Children gather around in the night to listen to the story of the Ancestral land.
Culture is our heritage, lets do well to preserve it.
This festival could linger for about four days before everyone is allowed to travel out again.
Thanks for stopping by.
