The year began on a good note for me as I was excited about setting goals. I was never one to have new year's resolutions so it was kind of a big deal to me that I put my mind into this. One of my goals then was to get a 9-5 job after a few online classes. I learnt a new skill and I was prepped to go back to job hunting again after my long break.
Well, I did eventually get a job and even though the 2 months+ online classes had taught me a few things that contributed to my employability, I think being on hive had the upper hand in it. I had applied for an entry level content specialist role and of course, I leveraged my 2+ years experience on hive and made a CV out of it.
It was my first major interview after giving up on job hunting in Nigeria and I was quite nervous. I have a medical science background and I had to convince the interview panel I could do very well in a content specialist role. I used my knowledge of creating content on hive and being a community moderator on HiveNaija to sell my abilities and it worked.
After two interviews and a test, I got in. If I hadn't been on hive, I wouldn't have built actual experience in content writing that led me to where I am now. Neither would I have longed to learn a new skill as much as I had wanted to.
Not only has hive funded my living expenses and a bunch of other stuff in the last two years, it has also made me grow in several ways. It geared me in a direction I truly enjoy and it opened my eyes to a world of possibilities while learning a lot for free.
I definitely have hive to thank for creating an opportunity for me. I never thought I'd write my hive link in my CV, explain what I do on hive, and actually get a job in Nigeria. It just reiterates the fact that every experience is an experience. I'm a whole lot busier now and I find it hard to keep up on hive but I'm sure as hell not leaving here anytime soon.
So this is yet another hive testimony from me. In one of my older posts, I did say I'd share here if I got a job. I have one now and I'm far from comfortable, I want more but I'm living in the present still and trying to enjoy it while I plot for my future.
Thanks to hive for making it all align right now, I hope hive will be a major game changer for me in the near future one way or another.
