Nigerians sef dey get dream jobs?

Over the weekend, the Hive Naija engagement question and answers really fascinated me. It was about your 'Dream Job' and it was good to see people still have dream jobs they look forward to despite the situation of the country. My first thought was 'Nigerians sef dey get dream jobs? Lmao'. I guess I just assumed the country is such a dream killer that people have quit dreaming.

I honestly can't count on one hand the people I've met that are actually doing their dream jobs, for many, it is a matter of convenience and paying the bills. Some of my dream jobs seem far-fetched and nothing close to my reality right now, all I want to do is earn to survive for the time being. But I'm thankful though, I'm not a one-job-forever kinda person so I can't say I'm not living one of my dreams already.

A lot of people are mostly surviving, living off survival jobs and taking on paths that they hope will plunge them into their big break soon enough, at least that's what I'm doing. I think it would be very unwise to hang on to the idea of a dream job with a lot of prospects and you do nothing to keep afloat in the time being.

In the real world, no one's coming to save you and you have to survive if you're far off from your dream job currently. While you bridge the gap between you and that dream, make sure not to crash from financial crisis and depression. It's a disturbing feeling when you're not doing what you think you ought to, especially when you're a passionate person, but in this Nigeria, for the majority, passion doesn't pay the bills.

It is understandable why Nigerian parents push for their kids to get a government job. Government jobs are the most 'stable' around here, for the wrong reasons if I may add 😄 For many offices, you can be really shitty at your job but no one's going to fire you, if you don get am, you don get am. It's not really regulated like the private sector where you must work hard for every kobo you earn.

There have been a lot of lay-offs recently in the private sector because of inflation which you won't find with government jobs. Our parents only care for you being able to take care of yourself no matter what, and the government jobs sort of provide that assurance, they don't care about any dream you have 😄. Even though the pay might be little for many, at least you won't get laid off impromptu.

What I got from the whole weekend discussion was that it's okay to dream, don't stop dreaming and working your way to make your life better. Our country is like a giant hurdle in the way of our future, not so many dreams make it to reality, but if you keep at it, yours might just make it. I'll tell you for sure that dreams do change too, it's not a do-or-die affair. Be positive and keep the hope alive. I don drop Monday motivation.

More than 80 percent of working Nigerians aren't doing their dream jobs because of financial reasons and many other issues.

It is truly about surviving and as long as we are alive, I believe we are living our dreams.

...as long as we are alive, I believe we are living our dreams.

That's a good way to look at it

I don't think most Nigerians have dream jobs sha, everybody just wants to survive. So, it's anywhere belle face like this.

Welcome to Nigeria where you dream of being a Civil engineer but ended being a Cashier in a bank😄
This one better sha...

Nigeria can do and undo 😄
