When I read the engagement question yesterday, two things immediately came to mind but one was prominent- dietary supplements! It was an easy answer because I was expecting my package of dietary supplements I had ordered a week ago. It had been a long time coming and I finally placed an order which arrived few minutes after I decided to answer this particular question.
Even though I just got these, I would love to stock up on them and it would make me really happy, like really really happy. The prices are insane (relatively speaking) because they're imported stuff and my local currency, the Naira is very shitty right now. I had stalled on these supplements for months because they're quite expensive but jokes on me, the price kept going up.
The one I initially wanted to buy was 65000 Naira only two months ago, last week it was 90000 Naira and is probably over 100000 Naira now. That's just crazy especially if you don't earn in dollars.
I went for a more 'affordable' alternative which turns out to be lesser in quantity and meant for one month while the other is for three months. Coupled with the two others the pharmacist suggested, buying them monthly is favorable for me.
When I told my doctor I wanted to stop taking his prescribed drugs and try these specialised supplements instead, he gave a go-ahead, saying they look promising and I'd be a lab rat for his other patients. His only issue was that they're expensive supplements. I didn't think too much of it then because I had HBD to cover for it monthly, but my HBD savings went into other stuff and hive activity dwindled, paying in Naira was just scary.
I womaned up and spent a huge chunk of my salary buying these, it was a happy and sad feeling I won't lie. But health is wealth, so I have to feel alright to go through my days successfully. I really hope my body responds positively to the supplements and that I get my desired results.
My husband says I talk about them like they're magic pills, well, they better work their fucking magic for the price I'm paying 😄 It still hurts me that I have to spend this amount again next month.
Now to the second thing I want in my weekend package, something also greatly affected by the Naira crash - skincare products. I prefer saying prices in Naira because it is what I spend even though my husband keeps saying it dollars. I don't care if I exchanged dollar for Naira for a purchase.
The good thing about skincare products is that they won't all finish at the same time so every month I only need to replace one or two items. Within a few weeks some products have added up to 3000 Naira extra and it only makes sense to stock up as much as one can because these prices keep skyrocketing.
Skincare is a very important part of my self-care and in the short while doing a bit more than I used to, I have noticed visible changes. I also love how calming it is to me and it would make my weekend and entire month if got a skincare package.
