The village of Oyo was waiting for the Shango Festival. Shango is the god of thunder and fire. As night came, people were excited. The sky turned dark blue.
The festival had drums, dancing, and nice smells. The best part was the fire-breathing. This old custom was to call Shango's spirit and ask for his help.
Adebayo was the best fire-breather in the village. He had practiced for many years. He wore a black top and was sweaty.
When the drums got very loud, Adebayo stepped forward. Everyone watched quietly. He put torches to his mouth. He breathed out, and a big fire came out. The fire was so bright it lit up the night. It was very hot.
At that time, Adebayo seemed like he had Shango's power. The fire moved in the sky like it was alive. People were amazed. Some knelt down, some raised their hands.
The dark sky was now bright with fire. It looked like Shango was watching from above. The fire showed Shango's anger and strength, but also how he protects his people.
When the fire got smaller, Adebayo put down the torches. He was breathing hard. The fire had made a big impact on everyone. People cheered for Adebayo and Shango. They were happy the festival went well.
The festival would end, but people would remember the memory of the festival . They would think about it until next year's festival of Shango, the powerful god of thunder and fire.
