The name Chai Buey 菜尾 (also known as Kong Assam or Kiam Chai Boey) means 'leftovers', but this humble yet flavourful dish is anything but ordinary. Spicy, sour and a wonderful dish to prepare after serving steamboat for Chinese New Year Reunion get together, Chai Buey is a beloved dish in many Chinese households.
This comforting stew is made with a variety of ingredients, including roast pig, barbeque pork, duck, chicken and mustard greens, plus plenty of other vegetables.
The result is a delicious, sweet, tangy and spicy combination that will have your taste buds singing!
I'm so lucky to have my aunt prepare this delectable dish every first day of the new year - it's truly a memorable experience!
