A warm greeting to everyone in this global open mic community. Today I am pleased to share my trumpet performance of “The Lord’s Prayer”, an a cappella choral composition composed by Albert Hay Malotte in 1935. In the context of a world emerging from great war, it offered comfort and hope in difficult times. When analyzed, one can see the influence of the European choral tradition, musical romanticism, and religious music based on biblical texts. It has a monophonic texture with rich harmony in the choir, a moderate and steady rhythm, and dynamics with emphasis and contrast. The lyrics are essentially a musical transcription of the Lord’s Prayer, one of the most well-known and recited passages in the Bible. I first heard this song sung by Andrea Bocelli, who performed it with the choir of the church where I congregate, the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. The Lord's Prayer has a special meaning: the prayer that Jesus of Nazareth made to the Heavenly Father and showed as a model to his disciples.

I have a testimony about the power of prayer. My mother taught me to pray and believe in God. It was before I entered college that I learned about God’s goodness. After a long spiritual search, I had the opportunity to kneel down and pray to my Heavenly Father for wisdom. As the scriptures teach, if one lacks wisdom, ask God for it, but do so with faith that you will receive. From that moment on, my life has been different. The strength to make decisions came to my mind and heart, the clarity to see a future full of hope, and the feelings of peace, security, and joy that come from being on the right path. I have seen miracles in my life and in the lives of the people who accompany me. I have had answers to my requests and I have been blessed by my displays of gratitude and worship. I have also been guided to the right places and people, and I have also received protection. Without a doubt, prayer is the key to the blessings of heaven.

Hey, oh, hey, oh
Father, let Your Kingdom come
Father, let Your will be done
On Earth as in Heaven
Right here in my heart
