Hello DIY lovers! In the spirit of the January contest with the Fanart team, I decided to create something that resonates with that theme.
Growing up, I loved the movie "Penguins of Madagascar." I often found myself watching it until midnight, which would make my mum angry enough to switch off the television. So, I decided to recreate my favorite character from the series using yarn.
Materials used:
- Yarn
- Crochet needle
- Scissors
- Cotton wool
Step One: I started by making a magic ring and created six single crochets inside it. For the second row, I made two single crochets in each stitch. In the third row, I alternated between one single crochet in a stitch and an increase in the next stitch, repeating this pattern until I completed that row.
For the fifth row, I switched to white yarn to achieve a real penguin look. I made thirteen single crochets and then began a pattern of two single crochets with my white yarn, followed by four single crochets with my black yarn, and finished with another set of two single crochets using white yarn. I continued this pattern until I completed that row. In the following rows, I incorporated increases with the white yarn and decreases with the black yarn. By the ninth row, I continued with the black yarn, making a single crochet in each stitch until I reached my desired length for the penguin.
After a few stitches, I inserted cotton wool into the body to give it a thicker appearance. Then, I continued the decrease pattern until the opening at the bottom was closed.
For the eyes, I used black yarn, threaded it into a sewing needle, and sewed it into a small circle to create the eyes.
For the Hat: I started by making a magic ring and created six single crochets inside it. I pulled the yarn to tighten the opening, then continued with two double crochets in each stitch. In the third row, I made one single crochet followed by an increased stitch, repeating this process until I finished that row. By the sixth row, I made a chain of one, turned my work, and then made single crochets in each stitch. I repeated this process until I reached my desired length for the hat, then made a chain of fourteen and joined it to the other side of the hat. I continued by making a single crochet in each of the fourteen chains I just created and finished with a slip stitch.
For the Arms: I made a magic ring and created six single crochets, then continued making single crochets in each stitch until I reached the seventh row. I made two arms and then sewn them onto the penguin.
For the Nose: I made a magic ring and created five single crochets. I used scissors to push the middle out and then sewed it onto the penguin.
For the Legs: I made a magic ring and five single crochets, then continued with an increase on the second stitch until I reached the fifth row. I created two legs and sewed them onto the penguin.
And that's how I created my fluffy penguin!
