Hi! Today I would like to start a long series of articles about my impressions after my trip to St. Petersburg. My 16-year-old daughter and I visited there quite recently and I have accumulated a lot of photos from various interesting and beautiful places.
Since this community implies the friendship of the peoples of the world, I think many users of the site will be interested to learn about such a beautiful city as St. Petersburg, which is located in the north of Russia, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland.
So, on the first day of our stay in St. Petersburg, we got off the train early in the morning, and then took all our things to my sister's apartment. After that, after breakfast, we had to choose where to go on our very first adventure. I suggested going to the Pulkovo Observatory in the hope of getting there on an excursion.
It is not so far to go to the observatory from Shushar (the area where my sister lives), but the way there is not direct, but with a transfer. So, in a roundabout way, we found ourselves on Leninsky Prospekt, right in front of the district administration. And while we were waiting there for the next bus, I saw a huge square with a monument and fountains.
While I was taking pictures, my previous trips to St. Petersburg came back to me, I remembered this place well, although it used to look a little different. At the corners of the square, on the opposite side from the avenue, stretches a whole string of monumental buildings of Stalinist architecture.
If anyone does not know, the 30-50s of the XX century is a whole epoch in our country, when whole arrays of residential buildings were built in different cities. In metropolitan areas, these buildings even look more like monumental and multi-storey palaces with columns, stucco and large classical architectural elements.
But the fountains on the square were built not so long ago. A triangular table embedded in a granite stone says that these fountains are a kind of gift from the "City Water Utility" to his native St. Petersburg. There is also a date of construction - 2006. Everything looks very harmonious and beautiful, as the fountains fit very well and competently into the architectural ensemble of the entire area.
Today it can be noticed that in addition to the previous buildings, the square is surrounded by high-rise buildings that appeared here relatively recently. The style of these new houses is quite consistent with the surroundings and does not conflict in design and layout. Soon our bus arrived and we went to the observatory. Tomorrow I'll tell you what we saw there.
