Before we go to Peterhof, I would like to take a little more walk along the embankment of Vasilyevsky Island. It was there that the tour bus took us at the end of our trip after reviewing the memorable places of the city. The architect Trezzini Square is located here and this place is a kind of center, where several interesting places are located at once. One of these places is the mansion of the architect himself and a monument to him. As the story goes, Trezzini, who did a lot for the appearance of St. Petersburg, wanted to build his house in this place, and he designed it himself. Now the building houses an expensive hotel, and the monument reminds all tourists to whom this mansion used to belong.
What else is significant about this place? The fact is that one of the important points of contact between the main city and Vasilyevsky Island is located here. They are connected here by the Blagoveshchensky Bridge. If we look away from the square to the southeast, we have a wide panorama across the Neva River. The Winter Palace is visible on the left, then the spire of the Admiralty is visible, and to the right is the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral.
If we look around, paying attention to what is in the immediate vicinity of Piazza Trizzini, we will definitely notice two granite sphinxes installed on the shore of the embankment. These sculptures have an amazing fate. The government of tsarist Russia bought them from Egypt, and before that, these sphinxes were found during excavations in one of the ancient Egyptian temples. There is a building of the Academy of Fine Arts right next to the Sphinxes, and I once dreamed of going there. It's a pity, but I never fulfilled my promise.
Прежде чем мы отправимся в Петергоф, я бы хотел ещё немного прогуляться по набережной Васильевского острова. Именно туда привёз нас экскурсионный автобус в конце нашей поездки после обзора памятных мест города. Здесь расположена площадь архитектора Трезини и данное место является своего роды центром, где расположено сразу несколько интересных мест. Одно из таких мест, это особняк самого архитектора и памятник ему. Как гласит история, Трезини, который очень много сделал для облика Петербурга, захотел обустроить в этом месте свой дом, и сам же его спроектировал. Теперь в здании располагается дорогой отель, а памятник напоминает всем туристам, кому этот особняк раньше принадлежал.
Чем ещё знаменательно это место? Дело в том, что здесь расположена одна из важных точек соприкосновения основного города и Васильевского острова. Их здесь соединяет Благовещенский мост. Если смотреть в сторону от площади на юго-восток, перед нами открывается широкая панорама по ту сторону Невы. Слева заметен Зимний дворец, потом видны шпиль Адмиралтейства, а правее - купол Исакиевского собора.
Если же мы оглянемся вокруг, обратив внимание на то, что находится в непосредственной близи от площади Тризини, то обязательно заметим двух гранитных сфинксов, установленных на берегу набережной. У этих скульптур удивительная судьба. Правительство царской России купило их у Египта, а до этого данных сфинксов нашли во время раскопок в одном из древних египетских храмов. Непосредственно рядом со сфинсками есть здание Академии художеств, и когда-то я мечтал туда поступить. Жаль, но я так и не выполнил своего обещания.
