It was a sluggish, chilly night over the Atlantic. I was wide awake even though it was late into the night excitedly thinking about my new home in America. I could hear the distance steady waves crashing into the ship gently, it was weirdly calming and pleasing but it was also what was keeping me awake. I could sense the busy ship crew slowly getting more and more quiet. I finally got somewhat drowsy and decided that I should go to sleep.
I don't even think I got some sleep but I was horrifically re-awoken to a hoard of footsteps hurrying away followed by what seemed like evacuation orders and deafening screams. Loud sharp knocks came from my door accompanied by a man's voice, "Sir, the ship is sinking, we need to evacuate immediately." I scrambled up from my bed, my mind still helplessly processing what he had said, grabbed all that I could in a panic and joined the immense hoard.
Once I got to the deck, I realised how horrific the situation was. There were numerous soldiers on our ship who seemed like they were negotiating something with the captain. They had attacked and seized our ship. Was I going to die? Was my dream of moving to America going to be destroyed? I had countless questions but I knew there was no time for answers, the ship was helplessly sinking and it was sinking fast.
Finally, the captain and the crew announced the devastating news: we would leave the ship and only take some of our stuff. Luckily, the captain had a friend who was also on a voyage headed for America that could potentially help us but he needed to arrive fast. Just then, I realized that all my life saving that I had saved up was left back in my cabin. I had to go get it, it was all that I had, I couldn't go to America with empty pockets. All the while, I knew that they wouldn't let me.
I could see the captain's friend's marvellous ship slowly approaching us, people were excited, they were going to be saved but I was nowhere near calm, let alone excited. I was anxious and worried. I knew I wouldn't be able to step onto the other ship, knowing fare well that all my life savings were still here.
I finally decided now was the time, people were happily rushing onto the other ship, I ran as fast as humanly possible to my cabin. Then, I heard a loud bang, my chest was screaming with tremendous pain. My life helplessly flashed before my very eyes. My dreams all were ruined. I was shot.
