It is dangerous if it has friends…

My Reviews are behind - I might be posting a lot in quick succession.
Hey everyone. If you check my blog recently, then you will see that I spent quite some time in the hospital and this ended up with an eventual surgery. The surgery went well and I am on my way to full recovery.
But I have fallen behind on my 40k Reviews. I know I won't earn much from posting many posts in one day, but I would really just like to get all the reviews done for these factions before I am too late and the Indexes are replaced by the Codex entries.
I want to be able to analyze what is lost and what is gained.
I am back at home from the hospital and I am basically laying on my back. I can at least sit/lay and blog and catch up where I can.
Even though I am posting a lot and the main focus is to post, not earn, I will not switch earnings off. This is part of a Hobby Fund and Fund Raiser so those that want to upvote me are welcome to!
Fund Raiser - Helping a friend with funding for a Wedding!
This post is part of the current Fund Raiser where a friend has given me an offer to buy a collection of Warhammer models, the money will go to putting down deposits for his wedding arrangements.
After that I have two other hobby debts to sort out.
I am collecting funds in the following ways:
- Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
- Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
- Selling some of the collection to friends.
The total remaining is $481.5!
Every bit counts!
Back to the review.
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
611 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #242, I am 369 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)
Astra Militarum, Scout Sentinels
10th Edition Index
Scout Sentinels are cheap Walkers that can be fielded either as single or up to 3 walkers in a unit. They are way tougher than infantry and quite mobile but light for a vehicle.
Their main ability was to buff friendly Artillery but since recent changes to the core rules, these Sentinels have lost their appeal.
Right now they can only really be used as mobile gun platforms.
They are 55pts for 1, 110pts for 2 and 165pts for three of them.
They are $45 each though.
When there are lots of other targets on the battlefield, perhaps they can be more useful!
Let's check their stats.

Abilities
Scouts 9" - Before the game begins, this unit can move 9".
Deadly Demise 1 (If this vehicle is destroyed on a roll of a 6, it explodes dealing 1 Mortal wound to every unit within 6")
Daring Recon
At the start of the Shooting phase, select an enemy unit within 18" and in line of sight of the Scout Sentinel.
For the rest of the phase, when friendly Astra Militarum models makes an attack against that unit, re-roll a to Hit roll of 1 and if that attack has the Indirect Fire ability it does not suffer the penalty to Hit for shooting at a unit that is not visible.
Thoughts
Being able to move so fast and dish out high damage is valuable. If they get shot at by decent anti-tank, they will disappear and I don't like their chances in close combat.
Their ability used to be much more useful.
Let me explain:
Indirect shooting confers a -1 to Hit rolls. If we used a Basilisk for example, the Earthshaker Cannon hits on 4+ and has Heavy which means +1 to Hit. This means it can hit on a 3+ when it sees the target (Line of Sight) but standing still it is +1 and -1 to Hit when firing at a target indirectly.
The Scout Sentinel with Daring Recon would then take that -1 penalty away and then the Basilisk can hit on 3+ with a re-roll of 1.
Added to this, some Astra Militarum Players would then use a Tank Commander or Solar Leontus to give the Order - Take Aim! on the Basilisk and give it a +1 to Hit again.
This made it 2+ to hit with a RE-ROLL of 1s. Super accurate.
The core rules changed, making that Indirect Fire Weapons could never hit on a better BS than 4+. So all that stacking is not a useless thing.
At least there is still that Re-Roll 1's to Hit for friendlies but we might as well use that to buff Leman Russ or Rogal Dorn tanks or even infantry. Most Guard units hit on 4+ so having a re-roll on the 1's is great.
Again, an Officer can give the Take Aim! command and it would be 3+ with re-roll 1's. Not bad for 55pts.
Lastly, unless you plan on fielding more than 3 of them, 3x units of 1 Walker would be better an 1 unit of 3. You can do Daring Recon 3 times and when getting shot at, the enemy can only shoot or charge 1 of them at a time.
Overall, pretty cool!
That makes 53 Astra Militarum Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 86.88% Completed. The total Completed is 26.41% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!
