Hello, how are you doing? Tonight, I’m going to share to you one of the most sought and exciting places in the Philippines, the Province of Bohol.

I always believed that travel entails wishful thinking. Travel takes us out of our comfort zones and inspires us to see the world's hidden wonders, taste exotic foods and try new things. It constantly challenges and reminds us to adapt to and explore new surroundings, engage with different people, embrace adventures as they come, and share new and meaningful experiences with friends and loved ones.
I still remember during the peak of the Pandemic that we were locked down and all of us struggled mentally and emotionally. The Tourism industry also struggles a big time. Tourism is one of the sectors most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, impacting economies, livelihoods, public services and opportunities on all over the world. Now that the travel restriction is no longer strict, we all have learned to never take things and time for granted.
Today I’m going to share to you why Bohol should be your next travel destination. According to history, The name Bohol is thought to be derived from the name of the barrio of Bo-ol, a barangay found in Tagbilaran City which was among the first places toured by the Magellan expedition during the Spanish colonization here in the Philippines that lasted for more than 300 years. Bohol at present is one of the booming tourist destinations in Southeast Asia.
One day can be spent trekking through the jungle and the man-made forest, spotting some of the world's oldest primates while the next can be spent admiring the island's colonial architecture and the next lazing on a beautiful Panglao beach. Travel is one of the few activities we engage in not knowing the outcome and reveling in that uncertainty. During my 1 week stay and visit in Bohol, I had a chance to witness some of the greatest gift and Wonders of Nature.
Here are my travel trips and exploration of the Province.
The Chocolate Hills
Of course, it’s hard to missed this iconic tourist spot when you’re in Bohol. This unique geographical formation consists of 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 sq km. Their name ethnography comes from the way the grass that covers them turns brown during the dry season. Chocolate hills are truly God’s masterpiece. While on our way up there, we were able to witnessed the beautiful view it has to offer. There were also a lot of foreigners and visitor there.
One important note for all the travelers is that he Chocolate Hills showcase its iconic chocolate brown look during the dry months of the year from January to May. During the rainy season, the hills' grass turns into a vibrant green, giving them that mint chocolate color. So as a traveler, the choice is yours to make. It has been declared the country's 3rd National Geological Monument and a UNESCO protected heritage site on June 18, 1988 in recognition of its scientific value and geomorphic uniqueness.
The Virgin Island Bohol
What a beautiful crystal clear water. Look at this breathtaking sandbar in the middle of the ocean! ? Virgin island is not really an island, but instead is a long stretch of sandbar with crystal clear and turquoise-coloured sea water surrounds it. It earned its name as ‘Virgin’ is because nobody lives here.
The nickname for Pungtud Island “Virgin Island”, this little white sandbar is pristine and divine , and surrounded by stunningly clear waters. It's a dream destination, and the perfect place to spend time island hopping. I truly enjoy my stay here.
One additional tip for tourists is that it is best to visit this island at low tide. During high tide, all but the treetops submerge. This tropical islet is kept very clean and natural. We also had a chance to witnessed dolphins!!!
The boat ride to Virgin Island is a dolphin watching opportunity. Upon arrival, you will find sea urchins and colorful starfish (sea stars). Sea shells are everywhere proving that the sea is very rich with natural wonders of nature.
The Man-Made Forest and Tarsier Conservation Area.
On day 3 of my Bohol journey, I visited two unique but popular places among tourists like me in Bohol. These are Man-Made Forest and the Tarsier Conservation Area. First I and my family decided to go The Tarsier Conservation Area as per the request of the children.
This famous tourist spot is a sanctuary in Loboc, Bohol where you can have a close encounter with the tarsiers, and mind you they are so small in person upon seeing them upclose. You can also learn more about their nature. This endangered creature is one of the iconic symbols of Bohol.
One sad fact is that, the Philippine Tarsier is considered as one of the smallest primates in the world. Unfortunately, it already belongs to “ The World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates” so its important for them to be protected as they plays an important role in the balance of our ecosystem.
The Cool and Refreshing Man-made forest was another favorite of Mine! My favorite part about this one was driving through this mahogany forest felt a very relaxing experience. The big trees provide a natural canopy and protection from the sun, the air is fresh and cool. For the information of everybody, the Bilar Man-Made Forest, is a dense forest stretching two kilometers along the border of Loboc and Bilar towns in Bohol.
I can’t really help but be amazed with this natural creation. I took a lot of pictures as well. Entering the man-made forest feels so magical. When I enter the forest, I noticed that the temperature changes abruptly, especially it was hot season when we visited . Once I was under the shade of the trees, everything cools down.
One interesting fact about this one is that the trees in the forest are actual trees, they were planted there as part of a reforestation project. Accordingly, It was created and initiated by the local government unit and implemented by government employees, students, and volunteers.
The Bohollywood: Mirror of the World
“Spectacular” “Genius”! These are the words that I’ve uttered when I entered this resort. You are like embarking on a global odyssey at Bohol's Mirror of the World! This place is perfect for family and friends as you explore and experience the World in just one park: Sikatuna's Mirror of the World and Botanical Garden.
All the famous tourist spots across the globe are here. The park is a collection of the replicas of some of the world’s famous and iconic landmarks such as the Eifel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Colosseum, etc. and I did not missed any of these. I took pictures as this moment is not everyday for me as a busy professional.
And the best part of it ? It’s conveniently located in Bohol, just a short distance from Panglao Airport, making it a stress-free for tourists and visitors. It’s a unique experience for us taste of international travel. It showcases scaled-down versions of famous structures from across the globe, allowing you to embark on a virtual journey from one continent to another in just a few steps.
My favorite part? Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Ever since I was a child, Paris has been my dream destination. Its definitely on everyone’s bucket list of travel destination, right?
The place is well taken care of and The area is landscaped with well-maintained and clean gardens, providing a pleasant environment for leisurely walks, relaxation and family . Various park sections showcase different cultures, with themed areas representing countries from other continents. It includes traditional music, attire, and artifacts making it very good for site seeing.
Baclayon Church
Perhaps this is my favorite part of my trip, as a History geek, I am and will always be fascinated with historical sites and places. From what I’ve learned , the church had gone some renovations after a strong earthquake had struck the province some previous years ago.
Interesting fact about the Baclayon Church is that it is made from coral stone and egg whites mixed as plaster. It is a simple cross-shaped building but very Spanish design .
Like many colonial churches with only limited materials and townsfolk without engineering expertise, its aesthetic was shaped by the need to rebuild disaster after disaster.
According to what I’ve read in History , the Baclayon Church is one of the oldest churches in the Philippines, dating back to the 16th century during the Spanish colonization . It’s been remodeled and rebuilt a few times since, finally sticking with its current form in 1717, which was built by 200 indentured native labourers of Bohol. Isn’t it interesting?
To sum up everything, all I can say is that Bohol is truly a perfect tourist destination. From the beautiful nature, to the crystal clear beaches and hospitable people, Bohol is truly one of a kind. The fun-loving staffs and friendly people provides thrill-seekers with a variety of activities you can enjoy anywhere. These are just a few of the numerous factors that make Bohol Island a popular choice for summer holidays.
