Hello, hello, hola!
Today I decided to make a simple hibiscus tea.
I call it simple because it really is. All it took to make it was just three ingredients. Before I get into it, though, I would like to let you in on some of the secret health benefits of this amazing tea.
Did you know that this tea helps to reduce blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and blood fat levels? It may seem preposterous, but it is most definitely true.

My mom is a known hypertensive person, and she is very religious in taking her medications. So far they have helped, but the goal is to eventually get to a point where her blood pressure is stabilized so she can slowly wean off the medications and not have to rely on them.
We heard that the tea extracted from the hibiscus leaves, or Zobo (as we call them over here), helps to control and stabilize blood pressure levels. There was no harm in trying, so she bought the leaves, and we proceeded to make the tea at home.
She took a cup of it every day, and from the second day she saw results. It was a part of our routine to check her BP first thing in the morning and last thing at night so we already knew the normal range and it was easy to track any changes.
On the second night of drinking it, her BP levels seemed to go slightly lower than the previous one. It was like a miracle. Mind you, she was on her BP medications already, and they helped to reduce it to a point, but the tea brought it down even more.
Ever since we discovered this, she has continued to take the tea every day.
I don’t have a personal experience with Zobo in relation to reduction of blood glucose and fat levels, but some research supports it.
Here is my simple recipe!
INGREDIENTS
Zobo leaves, honey (optional), and water.
Honey | Zobo Leaves |
PROCEDURE
Place your zobo leaves into a clean pot.
Introduce some water into it, depending on the quantity of your leaves; I used about 3 and a half cups.
Then put on medium heat and bring to a simmer.
When you get bubbles like this, leave it on for 3 more minutes, then bring it down.
Serve it into your cup and then add your honey or sweetener of choice.
And there you have it! Your hot cup of Zobo🙂
