Hello, Wednesday Walkers and @wednesdaywalk community.
Hey, I am Danaidh B from Scotland, and I just LOVE walking! Especially with my dog "Shirley" who will be 2 years old in August this year 2023.
So, today I would like to share with you my "Love and Appreciation" of Nature on what is My "1st Ever Post on Wednesday Walk"
(Please take a few moments to answer the questionnaire at the bottom of the post. Thank you) :)
"This is 'Lairds Loch' in Scotland (please read the sign)
Shame about the pointless graffiti tag(Borek??)
Having a dog keeps me very fit and healthy and gives me so much more reason to go out walking every day!
Walking is something that is self-perpetuating for me, where "Once I start, I can't stop!"
Until... I stop here and my jaw drops in Awe (every time) at this Beautiful Landscape that is pretty much right on my doorstep.
This is Shirley by the Lochside
These fallen trees provide essential habitat and food sources for all the cute little toads you are about to see. (Common Toad in UK / "Bufo Bufo")
It's hard to tell what going on here but there are actually 3 males fighting for a position on the female's back. They will do this for sometimes days at a time. He clutches onto the female to tire her down so then he can mate with her. His pure feat of strength and dedication wins her approval and they will have many many toad tadpoles or "toadpoles" as I like to call them.
This is a Coot, or 'Mud' Hen "Fulica Americana". They can basically run on water, it's insane! I tried to get some shots of it but they are so fast. If you ever go to this beautiful sight please look out for them running on water! It's amazing. It would be great to get a slo-mo of this happening as well.
Just look at this little guy, he looks muscley and bold and stood nicely for me to get a good shot of him. We know it's a 'he' because he is lighter in colour, and the females are bigger and darker (from the pictures above).
This one didn't want a photo
Fresh openings from previous budlings
"North view" coming down from the top of the Reserve.
Thinks I can't see him! hehe
Bottoms Up!
