What does outer space smell like?
It's a curious question you may have pondered during a late night staring at the stars. Well, according to astronauts, space actually has a quite distinct scent! After returning from spacewalks and removing their gear, they report detecting an aroma of seared steak and hot metal or welding fumes. - Source
Absolutely wild, right? While we can't easily verify that cosmic odor ourselves yet, it's an enthralling idea that the final frontier has its own peculiar perfume. Does it smell this way everywhere amongst the stars? Or only near Earth's atmosphere? So many questions left for future generations of space scientists!
For now, we'll have to settle for reading descriptions of that interstellar scent. But one day, maybe it'll inspire the first extraterrestrial fragrance: Essence of the Universe by Calvin Klein.
