Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. Thus, today, I will take us round the globe to have a look at some of such historical events that took place on this day 25/8/2024 in history.
We begin today from Russia. Do you know that on this day in 1530, Ivan IV (the Terrible) also known as Ivan Grozny, Ivan IV, Ivan Vasilyevich, the Grand Prince of Moscow and Russia's first tsar, was born in Kolomenskoye, near Moscow.
From Russia, we move over to the world of space exploration. On this day in 1835, the New York Sun began publishing a series of news stories erroneously claiming that British astronomer John Herschel had discovered various kinds of life on the Moon, including winged human creatures around four feet tall; this became known as the Great Moon Hoax, and The Sun never retracted the reports.
From the world of space exploration, we move over to the world of astronauts and cosmonauts. Now, on this day in 2012, Neil Armstrong, the first person to set foot on the Moon, died at the age of 82 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He described the landing as "one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."
From the world of astronauts and cosmonauts, we move over to England. On this day in 1867, Michael Faraday, an English scientist and chemist whose numerous experiments contributed significantly to our understanding of electromagnetic died in Newington, Surrey, England.
We'll round off our today's look in history from the former Bangladesh. Do you know that on this day in 1962, Taslima Nasrin, a Bangladeshi feminist author who was exiled from her home country due to her controversial works, which many Muslims believed undermined Islam was born in Mymensingh, East Pakistan [now Bangladesh].
