[Let's Play] Stardew Valley - Summer of Mining

In my last Stardew Valley post I introduced you to Miss Moscato, new owner of Fermented Farms — a future vineyard of epic proportions.

We spent the entire first season fishing for money, levelled that up to max! Bought a couple of Autumnal fruit trees, fully upgraded my inventory, and am now choosing to spend the Summer mining so I have plenty of ore at the ready for crafting and tool upgrades.

I guess it'd help if I first upgraded my pickaxe though. So it'll be a couple of days before I start the mining! While the lazy blacksmith finally gets to the job.

So... I guess I'll go back to fishing during this time. xD And, of course, I'm doing a small amount of farming. Nothing huge. Just a small amount to get some kitchen foods at the ready. And hops, for homebrew beer. xD Gotta start somewhere, right!?

Soon my pickaxe was upgraded to a Copper Pickaxe! And I could dig a little further with ease. I needed to start mining up iron ore and I finally reached cave level 40 where iron nodes start to form. 😊

This is what I'll be doing for a few in-game days — watering my few crops, and mining iron. I'll like to get enough iron for maybe 80 or so iron ingots, for now, and then proceed further to gold ore.

I'm also still working on various friendships. I want a fishing bait recipe from Linus, so I'm working him over with the gifts and chats when I can... I'm thinking my character, Miss Moscato, will eventually marry Elliot as well. Seems like a fine pairing. The Wine Baroness and the Aspiring Author.

A pity he lives by the beach where I am at very rarely at the moment, so I only see him occasionally in the tavern where I try to ply him with a beer. His friendship will be easier come Autumn when my pomegranate trees are fruiting. Those are one of his favourites.

However, a random day of green rain laid waste to my plans... indeed, I got a message saying that my trees' growth had been hindered. Yay. Thanks green rain!

My dreams of wine and ale have been waylaid by a whole day — the audacity!

Anyway. This is the first time I've seen the green rain xD weeds were strewn all about, giant fiddlehead ferns grew, and trees were covered in moss. I don't know what moss is used for, it being a new resource since I last played, but I collected all I could of it anyway.

I also popped by the inn to see people... and noted that Elliot is indeed Miss Moscato's future husband. Look at him! Encouraging the townspeople to drink and be merry during crisis.

Perfect.

A few days later, Fate delivered the most vengeful of blows.

An explosion was heard through the night!! It woke up my poor little Miss Moscato. She hurried outside, wondering what on earth that sound could've been... only to discover a meteorite had crashed onto her property. ONTO ONE OF HER EXPENSIVE TREES.

Luckily it landed in such a position not to hinder the growth of the remaining trees, because my pickaxe is not yet strong enough to remove the damned thing.

A week later... IT HAPPENED AGAIN. Thankfully, this one did not land on my precious trees — just next to them. To taunt me. xD

This is the first time in my many hours of Stardew Valley where I've had two meteorites land on the same farm! I was under the impression it was a once-off. Obviously I was wrong.

With 8 days left til the end of the season, a fishing competition interrupted my quest for ore and upgrades.

The Annual Trout Derby.

The goal is to try and catch as many rainbow trout as possible and hope they have a golden ticket clenched between their gills. You can then hand in those golden tickets for rewards — rewards including a one-use tent so you can sleep anywhere for a night! Diamonds, coffee, quality sprinklers, STUFF!

I'm particularly pleased about the quality sprinklers. They'll be useful come Autumn.

I started preparing some crop areas for the next season, with my brand new sprinklers placed firmly in the dirt. I also made a few extra with some of the ingots I've crafted from all my mining. I'm going to be redoing the existing plots too... but we'll see how I go with that on the last day of the season.

I upgraded my pickaxe to steel, hoping I could now get rid of those meteorites... but alas. Turns out I need to upgrade all the way to gold to remove those things. Sigh. At least they'll be full of iridium for me.

Approaching the end of Summer and Miss Moscato upgraded her house! She now had a kitchen to work with! She could now cook all the food! xD

One day she'll have a cellar filled to the brim with aging wine. But that's several upgrades and a lot of fruit, wine, and money away. A while yet... What I really need is to level up my farming a little bit more so I can learn the crafting recipe for kegs... then Miss Moscato's dreams can progress!

Some mystical, magical jellyfish brought in the last day of the season — a true sight to behold. Perhaps a good omen for the future.

Autumn approaches, and with it the growth of the trees that didn't get squashed by a meteorite! The fruit collection for future wines and beverages will officially begin

Catch you next time! 😊🌱🌷

I do miss mining in this game. The caves were always so fun!

Yes! I lose track of time in the caves xD trying to find that next staircase to get to the next level... hoping I reach an elevator level before the clock hits 'Run Back Home and Sleep' time.

I didn't know iron starts at that deep. Cave level 40? Does it not take like billions of years to reach there? xD

And how is your farm that organised? lol. By the way, love those glowing jellyfish at the end. What a beautiful view.

Yep! Cave Level 40 is the start of iron! :D Then gold starts at level 80. I really need to start work on the community centre so I can have the bus repaired and go out to the other mine as well... I've kind of been ignoring it this time. Maybe I'll go JoJa Mart for a change - feeling lazy, lol.

I need my farm organised! XD I hate looking at a messy, disorganised thing. I'm about to hit Winter and all Autumn I've had grape trellises in a couple of different spots. Can't wait to chop them down. Driving me crazy! XD
