Horror movies, a genre which innovates every now and then to bring you new stories. Personally I like only one kind of horror movies and that is psychological horror, the kind that doesn't need to scare you every 5 minutes to be good, what it does is to sow the terror little by little and that terror will live with you for a long time. In this genre, my favorite movie is Hereditary or as it was translated into Spanish: El Legado del Diablo.
Hereditary was released in 2018 and directed by Ari Aster considered one of the most influential horror directors today, he also directed another movie called Midsommar. Hereditary was something like his first big hit being considered as the new Exorcist and although from my point of view, this is not true, the horror of this movie is more similar to Rosemary's Baby.
Películas de terror, un género el cual innova cada cierto tiempo para traerte nuevas historias. En lo personal me gusta solo un tipo de películas de terror y es el terror psicológico, de esos que no necesitan asustarte cada 5 minutos para ser buena, lo que hace es sembrarte el terror poco a poco y ese terror vivirá contigo durante mucho tiempo. En este género, mi película favorita es Hereditary o como se tradujo al español: El Legado del Diablo.
Hereditary fue estrenada en 2018 y dirigida por Ari Aster considerado como uno de los directores de terror más influyentes en la actualidad, también dirigió otra película llamada Midsommar. Hereditary fue algo así como su primer gran éxito siendo considerada como la nueva Exorcista y aunque desde mi punto de vista, esto no es verdad, el terror de está película es más parecida al Bebé de Rosemary.
The story begins at the funeral of Annie's mother (our protagonist), her mother was a strange woman and due to several events in Annie's childhood, she decided to break ties with her mother until her mother dies and Annie decides to live her life quietly and have a new beginning with her family or so she hopes because shortly after, many paranormal events attack the family and especially Charlie, Annie's best daughter. Meanwhile, the grandmother's darkest secrets come to light: pacts with the devil, cults and a terrible future awaits the family.
As I mentioned before, I don't like horror movies very much because almost all of them follow the same formula that, yes, worked for many years, but being already used to it, it's easy to predict when the scares will be. So, I don't have many horror movies that I really like, but psychological horror doesn't rely on scares, just good performances and a different story to cause the worst of the scares.
What I liked most about the movie is an interesting story, it's about demonic possessions and cults, but the story is different, the movie is one of those that you have to see twice to understand it and sometimes even a third time wouldn't hurt, but once you understand it, you will notice how well made it is and how it pays homage to great movies like The Exorcist, Insidious and others that I haven't seen xD.
La historia comienza en el funeral de la mamá de Annie (nuestra protagonista), su mamá era una mujer extraña y debido a varios sucesos en la infancia de Annie, está decidió romper lazos con su madre hasta que la madre muere y Annie decide vivir su vida tranquila y tener un nuevo comienzo con su familia o eso espera porque poco tiempo después, muchos sucesos paranormales atacan la familia y sobre todo a Charlie, hija mejor de Annie. Mientras tanto, los secretos más oscuros de la abuela salen a la luz: pactos con el diablo, sectas y un terrible futuro le espera a la familia.
Como mencione anteriormente, las películas de terror no me gustan mucho porque casi todos siguen la misma fórmula que si, funciono durante muchos años, pero al estar ya acostumbrados, es fácil predecir cuándo serán los sustos. Por eso, no tengo muchas películas de terror que realmente me gusten, pero el terror psicológico no depende de los sustos, solo de buenas actuaciones y una historia diferente para causar el peor de los miedos.
Lo que más me gustó de la película es un interesante historia, se trata de posesiones demoniacas y sectas, pero la historia es diferente, la película es de esas que hay que ver dos veces para entenderla y a veces hasta una tercera vez no vendría mal, pero una vez la entiendas, notaras lo bien hecha que esta y como hace homenaje a grandes películas como El Exorcista, Insidious y otras más que no he visto xD.
We also have the suspense and the film builds up to the grand finale and at no time I feel that it declines rather, every minute that passes the story goes up a new step and when you thought everything was going down a path, it surprises you with other different things. I also really liked the creepy and uncomfortable atmosphere that some scenes leave, also the camera games are very interesting and the performances are incredible, we have Toni Collette who takes the prize in this movie, her performance was terrifying and very realistic, at all times you believe the pain or anguish of this character, Milly Shapiro scares a lot in this movie and leaves her great mark in every scene she appears, Alex Wolff shined in this movie, I have seen him in other movies, but here he shows that he is a great actor, finally, Gabriel Byrne and Ann Dowd did an excellent job too, although they appear little, their performances are felt and accompany very well in the movie.
Every detail is important and every element is very important in this film. Maybe the only negative point for me is that this movie is not for everyone and it is that it was sold as the new Exorcist and it is not, not even close, there are not many scares and the story if you do not pay close attention, seems to make no sense or even boring, so, I understand that many do not like it because they are not used to this kind of horror.
También tenemos el suspenso y es que la película se va construyendo para el gran final y en ningún momento siento que decae más bien, cada minuto que pase la historia sube un nuevo escalón y cuando pensabas que todo iba por un camino, te sorprende con otra cosas diferentes. También me gustó mucho la atmosfera tétrica e incómoda que dejan algunas escenas, también los juegos de cámaras son muy interesantes y las actuaciones son increíbles, contamos con Toni Collette que se lleva el premio en esta película, su actuación fue aterradora y muy realista, en todo momento te crees el dolor o angustia de este personaje, Milly Shapiro asusta muchísimo en esta película y deja su gran marca en cada escena que aparece, Alex Wolff se lució en esta película, lo he visto en otras películas, pero acá demuestra que es un gran actor, por último, Gabriel Byrne y Ann Dowd hicieron un excelente trabajo también, aunque aparecen poco, sus actuaciones se sienten y acompañan muy bien en la película.
Cada detalle es importante y cada elemento es muy importante en esta película. Quizás el único punto negativo para mí es que está película no es para todo el mundo y es que la vendieron como el nuevo Exorcista y no lo es, ni cerca, no hay muchos sustos y la historia si no presta mucha atención, parece no tener sentido o hasta aburrida, por lo que, entiendo que a muchos no les gusten porque no están acostumbrados a este tipo de terror.
Personally the movie was a surprise for me, the first time I saw it I understood part of the story, but I still had some problems, but in the end after reading a little on the internet and watching it again, I was very surprised and from the beginning it has many details that when we put them together helps us to understand the story and everything makes sense even the least interesting information is necessary to understand the plot. My favorite scene is of Peter (eldest son) at school where he is distracted by a sound made by his younger sister, and then he is possessed by the demon for a few seconds making him hit the table until he breaks his nose. The scene may not surprise much, but seeing it in the movie is quite terrifying, here is the video:
La película en lo personal fue todo una sorpresa para mí, la primera que vez lo vi entendí una parte de la historia, pero aún tuve algunos problemas, pero al final luego de leer un poco por internet y verla otra vez, me sorprendió mucho y es que desde el principio tiene muchos detalles que al unirlos nos ayuda a comprender la historia y es que todo tiene sentido hasta el dato menos interesante es necesario para comprender la trama. Mi escena favorita es de Peter (hijo mayor) en el colegio en donde se distrae con un sonido el cual hacía su hermana menor, para luego ser poseído por el demonio por unos segundos haciéndolo darse golpes por la mesa hasta romperle la nariz. Quizás no sorprenda mucho la escena, pero al verla en la película es bastante terrorífica, por acá les dejó el video:
The most important part is the ending because in a few minutes we can explain everything that happened in the film, plus it is a very surprising ending, nothing that we had expected. I will not say what happened, but for me, it was a perfect ending and leaves much to think and analyze the film and how well constructed the story is so that it leaves no doubt about what happened.
For me it was a very good movie that gives way to a way of making horror movies and for sure it will connect more people than this kind of stories and will connect us with the old horror movies and this one in particular, is a very disturbing movie and for me, one of my favorite movies, being one of the most bizarre, wild, unpredictable and terrifying of the year. We also get into madness, mental disorders or curses? That are hereditary. It also deals with themes of family destruction.
I recommend watching it without knowing much, so, I don't want to talk too much about the movie because anything I say will take away the surprises that this movie brings. 2018 was a great year for horror movies and Hereditary proves it 100%.
La parte más importante es el final ya que el pocos minutos podemos nos explican todo lo que pasó en la película, además que es un final muy sorprendente, nada que hayamos esperado. No diré lo que pasó, pero para mí, fue un final perfecto y que deja mucho qué pensar y analizar de la película y lo buen construida que está la historia para que no deje dudas con respecto a lo que pasó.
Para mí fue una película muy buena que da pase a una forma de hacer películas de terror y de seguro conectará a más persona que este tipo de historias y nos conectarán con el cine de terror antiguo y está en especial, es una película muy inquietante y para mí, una de mis películas favoritas, siendo una de las más bizarras, salvajes, impredecibles y aterradoras del año. También nos metemos en la locura, trastornos mentales ¿o maldiciones? Que son hereditarios. También trata temas sobre la destrucción de la familia.
Recomiendo verla sin saber mucho, por lo que, no quiero hablar demasiado sobre la película porque cualquier cosa que diga eliminará las sorpresas que trae está película. 2018 fue un gran año para las películas de terror y Hereditary lo demuestra al 100%.
