A Penny For Your Thoughts?

in #hive-1368192 months ago

1959 is the year that the penny changed. Instead of the iconic wheat back, the reverse depicted the Lincoln Memorial.

This "new" obverse was not very popular. Going from the curvy wheat cent to the boxy building, was not a very liked decision.

It gained the nickname "boxcar" because the boxy shape reminded people of an ugly train car.

Fast-forward 51 years and a new design made it's debut. A lot had changed in those 51 years. The copper composure was replaced with zinc with a thin copper coating. The deep Lincoln stamp was replaced with a flat image of Lincoln.

But the back finally got away from the box car, returning to a more curvy design.

Rather than wheat, we see a shield with "E. Plurum Unim" written on the top, and "ONE CENT" on a scroll over the shield.

This is the modern penny. When it was new, it was very novel and appreciated. If only we had the deep copper strike, like back in the early '60s and '70's.

What are your thoughts? Do you like the old "boxcar" design or the new shield design?

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

Old is gold.

I'll be at least keeping the copper pennies that are worth more than their face value.

That won't be the case, on the other side of the Reset...

At Least, but I'm keeping as much coins as I have room for.
I hope Trump would survive long enough to do that and avoid a disorderly reset.

I'm glad you're holding Copper Pennies... Even 5 of our Copper Coated Zinc Pennies will buy One Pound of Copper, so keep that in mind...

I personally like all the designs... I figure we'll be returning to Copper Pennies on the other side of the Reset, since a Pound of Copper will more than likely cost "less" than 5 Cents... I do like the Shield...

The design was changed for the sesquicentennial of Lincoln's (1809-1865) birth; so there was a reason for the change.

It is interesting that the Wheaties were perceived as a collectible while the memorial coins are just pennies.
