Hi all,
In any training block for a marathon you will find a taper period, which is 2-3 weeks where the focus in on resting, recovering and mentally preparing for the event. In these weeks you greatly reduce your weekly distance.
Since this week my taper weeks started. For the coast (trail)marathon on the 9th of februari. As I have a city marathon planned 2 months later where I hope to finish within 3h:20min I realized upfront that I cannot race both. So my ambition for the upcoming event is just finishing and having a great time. For my taper this means that I didn’t cut my distance that drasticly - my peakweek was 85km and my taper week will finish around 50 km (including tomorrow’s run). So in this taper I try to rest a little more and reduce the intensity of the runs - but I’ll still run!
Weatherforecast
This morning the weatherforecast for the event came online. While it seems to be dry with some sun, the experienced temperature is expected to feel like -3 degrees Celcius. (Due to the stronger coast wind) - which is going to be very challenging and will punish anyone that takes a break due to muscle cramps.
Today’s run
While I still aim at 50km as weekly goal, I do reduce the intensity. So running at an easy pace. Temperature around 0 degrees (but without any wind).
Normally I prefer running in the morning and seeing the sun rise - today I ran during during sun set which also gave me very beautiful views! As I went running straight after dinner (busy day) I felt my stomage playing up a bit, but that was oke as the distance was short and the pace was gentle.
What makes these runs in the dark somewhat adventurous is that the roads here in the strips of nature are full of holes and unlit, so you have to be careful where to place your feet.
happy running
