Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, friday the 06/10/2024 in history.

We begin today from Israel. Do you know that on this day in 1973, on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel, resulting in significant fatalities, but Israeli forces effectively fought back, and the conflict ended inconclusively.

From Israel, we move over to the world of sportsmen. Do you also know that on this day in 2000, an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 happened near Sakaiminato, Japan, the most violent since the deadly Kōbe earthquake of 1995. However, damage and casualties were low due to the epicentre's location in a sparsely populated area.

From Japan, we move over to the world of basketball. Now, on this day in 1993, Michael Jordan retired from professional basketball, claiming "I don't have anything else to prove," only to return in March 1995.

From thea world of basketball, we move over to Egypt. Do you know that on this day in 1981, members of the extremist fringe of the Muslim opposition killed Egyptian President Anwar Sadat.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Czechoslovakia. Do you know that on this day in 1930, Hafez al-Assad, who was the President of Syria from 1971–2000 who brought stability to the country and established it as a powerful presence in the Middle East was born in Qardāḥa, Syria.

My good people, that will be all from me today. Let's do it again tomorrow.
