Threads of Absence
Your jumper’s gone/
disappeared/
among laundry’s end
no sign/ my friend/
where did it go/
whilst I was sleeping
maybe the dryer/
swallowed it whole/
or shrank it to fit a doll?
Beneath the bed/
in cupboards and drawers/
the mystery doesn’t unfold/
warm corners
threads of memory
where once we laughed
a knotted grief//
Your jumper/
soft and worn/
vanished now/
a phantom limb/
I can’t allow/
to slip from grasp//
Beneath the autumn leaves/
the chill of winter/
longing lingers/
your scent/ your laugh/
gently whispers//
