Whenever I see pictures of the bull running festival in Pamplona in Spain it always strikes me how terrifying it must be for the animals surrounded by a crowd of noisy, excited people deliberately provoking them. I don't want to see people injured but I am definitely on the bulls' side. Except for the occasional tumble or collision, in this event the animals are not harmed but how many of us would be willing to undergo the harrowing experience if the roles were somehow reversed? Using animals for entertainment like this is compassionless and 'tradition' is a poor excuse to my mind.
This cartoon illustration is my light-hearted take on the event, which I admit I have never actually experienced. I didn't want to complicate things with crowds of people but tried to make it clear who is actually doing the chasing. My favourite bit in this image is the steaming mess left by the frightened bulls. Given that the illustration I posted yesterday also featured animal poo, and not wanting to develop a reputation, I will make sure that the next one does not.
I use Adobe Illustrator to create these pictures. Using vectors makes it very easy to correct anything and I can keep on making changes for ages until it looks right. Sometimes the tinkering stage can last a loooooong time!
