Memoir

/ˈmemˌwär/ noun. a record of events written by a person having intimate knowledge of them and based on personal observation. Usually memoirs. an account of one's personal life and experiences; autobiography. the published record of the proceedings of a group or organization, as of a learned society.

Prompt #15 has just landed. What sets humanity apart from every other species on the planet? One of these things are the belief in miracles. Believing in magic, in the impossible can make a person achieve and become almost anything they can dream of. That's one reason I feel next week's prompt is so very important. Belief in miracles can instantly elevate a people from good to great.

Memoir Monday has grown so much that I won’t be able to comment on everyone’s posts anymore (and get my own work done) but I’ll still be supporting your posts with reblogs, votes, and shares on my other social media accounts (X, Facebook, etc.).

For all of those who’ve regularly participated in Memoir Monday - keep going, you’re making great progress in chronicling your very own life story for future generations to enjoy.

For those who missed the inaugural post explaining what the Memoir Monday initiative is all about you can find it here.

Now for next week’s Memoir Monday prompt:

Do you believe in miracles?

My answer:

I wholeheartedly believe in miracles and have been lucky enough to experience what I would consider to be a few extremely significant ones in my life.

One of the most profound and frightening miracles I ever experienced was written into chapter six of my sci-fi novel, Alarm Clock Dawn, almost exactly as I remember it when it happened to me in 1992. As it turns out not everything in that book is fiction. I’ve never spoken about this experience publicly but, although going through it was traumatic at the time, it created a undeniable transformation in my life for the better. There’s a distinct difference between my life before and after that even occurred. I still can’t explain it or fully understand what occurred but I’ve gone on to do things that I couldn’t have dreamed of achieving. I credit this miracle with playing a role in most of it.

The thing about miracles is it’s not just those big ones that are important. In the long term, sometimes it’s the sum of all the small miracles that are the most beneficial and impactful.

An example of these small miracles could be a moment of synchronicity when a friend you were just thinking about reaches out to you unexpectedly, a quiet moment communing with nature, a magnificent sunset that forces you to pause and drink in its beauty, or seeing a shooting star just as you’re thinking of a friend or relative that has passed. These things are a potent reminder of our universal connectedness.

Miracles are more than just mere coincidences, they’re catalysts of hope that foster resilience and enhance our coping mechanisms. They have a way of creating within us a sense of purpose and being part of something much greater than ourselves. The ability to recognize and experience these miracles in our lives create a deep sense of psychological well being within us and often spark altruism and kindness to those of us who experience them. This sends ripples of goodwill out into the world. Those who experience miracles tend to want to pay that good fortune forward.

The truth is miracles are unfolding all around us, at almost every moment of our existence. Sadly, most of us are too distracted or are not in the proper frame of mind to notice. We must learn how to change our perception to become more in tune with our environment and in the moment. The best tool I know of to allow us to retune our perception is meditation.

Miracles are one of humanity's superpowers, like magic they encourage us to dream beyond our limitations, act with compassion, and embrace the wonders of our life’s journey. In a world often plagued by uncertainty and adversity, believing in miracles illuminates our path, guiding us toward a more hopeful and enriched existence. Hopefully we never become so "evolved" that we no longer believe.

good morning dear friend @ericvancewalton how are you?
What you say is very true, miracles exist, and they do not have to be great miracles to be considered one, there are small miracles, which due to the life we lead go unnoticed. I am also one of those people who believes in it.
Have a great day

Good morning! The week is going pretty well so far, I hope it is for you too. The great thing about miracles is when we start to open ourselves up to noticing them more begin to come into our lives.

Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

As ever, you put it so well, I can't help myself agreeing. You've got to believe in miracles - isn't life so much more...everything when you do?

Jesus, that's funny! They used to play this song when we roller skated, it reminds me a lot of those days (2012-2019).

I can't imagine my life without them, it would be a dull and depressing existence. Traveling really opens me up to this "miracle mindset". Do you find that to be the case when you travel?

I think so, yeah. I think it's something to do with stepping out of routine, maybe? Since I know my routines at home, I can't see where in said routine there'd be space for something unusual or extraordinary. But when you're on the road, everything's unknown and unusual.

Or maybe it's just that traveling is magic and we should try to hold on to as much of it as we can? :D

That's totally it for me, seeing a new place with new eyes puts everything in a different/euphoric light. : ) I suppose when we're traveling we're also acutely aware of our limited time.

I love this one. Maybe it will help me straighten out my posting-on-hive slump.

Thanks. I enjoyed writing mine! I've been worried about you but then this voice in my head said, "she's probably busy in the garden". If I had a yard that's where I'd be.

It's true! But I am also, suddenly, not interested in sharing my mundane life on Hive. It's been a relief to be outside just playing, not thinking "I gotta take a shot of that," or "I gotta remember that thought." I'm enjoying life more tbh.

Wonderful news that you're enjoying life more! Everyone needs a break from here from time to time.

I do believe in miracles big brother. Absolutely agree with you on the power of noticing small miracles in our lives. It's incredible how they can shift our perspective and bring unexpected joy. Wishing you more moments of awe and connection ahead bro... !PIZZA

Thank you! I wish the same to you.

Thank you so much big bro

Eric, your contemplations on miracles are incredibly motivating. You draw attention to the significance of miracles of all sizes and their influence on our sense of purpose, resiliency, and optimism. With its intriguing blend of fiction and real-life experiences, "Alarm Clock Dawn" sounds intriguing. Really well written

Thank you!

Of course I believe in miracles and I have experienced them. When I was a child, I fell into a well, but I was given a miracle that I was still alive even though I drank a lot of well water. Have a nice day, Eric.

That's incredible, Eliana! How old were you when that happened?

There will be interesting articles on this topic

Miracles are live. I will say on several occasions, my life has been filled with miracles and so it will be difficult for me to come to a point whereby I didn't believe in miracles

Wow, this is awesome and I love the topic, just getting to know about it, will surely participate.

Miracles are real, I do believe in them.
So many things I have experienced and it can only be a miracle they come true.

Our whole life existence is a big miracle if we think about it.

It absolutely is and there's so much of it that still can't be explained.

I think if you are willing to look for it we have all probably experienced our fair share of miracles. As you said, some might be quite subtle while others are much more grand. Being able to see the northern lights with my wife while we were camping back in May would probably be one of the most recent ones.

That is so true. We take so much for granted. The northern lights are an absolute miracle. I wish we could have seen them this time around. You guys were very lucky!

I wholeheartedly believe in miracles and not only because my religion believe in it alone but because I have witnessed it happen in my life

So many people have experienced these things but we often forget while we're going about our day to day lives.

Reading your post and the other comments, I am comforted that I am not the only one who believes that every single thing in this world is a miracle. Our existence is a miracle, the flowers, the sunrise, the dawn, love is a miracle. As you rightly say: there are miracles so small that they go unnoticed by our eyes. You know? Having experienced many times the miracle in my life, gives me the certainty that new miracles will come, big and small, like this one, the one of coinciding, in a planet of more than 8000 million people, through a magical platform. It will be a pleasure to write about miracles on this Memory Monday. A big hug, Eric

You know, I think people tend to believe it's all a miracle or nothing is. I'd hate to experience life from the perspective of the latter, it would be so dull and depressing. I hope you have a great weekend. I can't believe the week is already coming to a close.

Absolutely a yes to this question, it often happens in the most unexpected or mundane places.
You write with a magic wand Eric!
I'm falling behind, have still not got around to this week's Memoir Monday!

Thank you, Lizelle! I was counting on you being in the "yes" camp on this one. : ) No worries about falling behind. It can be a challenge sometimes to take part in these initiatives and juggle everything else.

LEO Power Up Day - June 15, 2024

I've been out of my depth recently and it's been a tough few weeks but I would really love to talk about this topic in particular because of how heartfelt is. You truly bring out the most reflective topic, Eric. Thank you for this platform.🌺

Miracles are part of us, even for those who fail to acknowledge it, It is the human-driving force, without it, we are nothing.
