Last year we did our postponed 20th in style by heading to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. A fantastic trip to be sure, a much needed reprieve from the long NY winter...and NY in general.
This year we had no grand plans. To the point that it practically snuck up on us. In our defense we've been very busy recently, but if someone hadn't mentioned April Fool's, we might have realized it through mama dreemit's facebook Happy Day post the next morning, hah!
Sometimes no plans turn into the best of days, and this one definitely met that criteria.
And it began with a surprise shopping trip for a gift I've wanted- my very own, fitted helmet. I've been making do with a pass down from my stepson, but not only was it loose, it was a bit battered.
I was kinda hoping to go the girlie route with pink or purple flashiness, unfortunately there were none in my size at two different locations, but I'm not complaining, this one is beautiful.:)
How does one go for a motorcycle ride when it's 36°F? By bundling up like Ralphie's little brother on a Christmas Story, that's how XD
Lots of layers and padded motorcycle jacket and pants...and I was as toasty warm as I look! :)
Then off we went to what boasted to be the best BBQ in the Finger lakes.
And my God, was it ever! If you are ever in Horseheads NY, you must try Fat City, with brisket so tender it just fell apart, delicious pulled pork, killer sides and sauces!
And finally, a dreem team anniversary would not be right without a hike into nature :)
We've been talking about how there are still plenty of places in day trip distance that we have yet to see.
Places that don't come readily come up on a Google search.
Places like this one.
I didn't even learn its name until we got home, we happened to glimpse some water through the trees and wheeled on in!
Catherine Creek apparently runs all the way from Watkins Glen to Horseheads.
Have you ever thought to yourself while driving somewhere- I wish I had time to stop there? Then you make a mental note to do so on a later date, but unless it's something more grand, like a park or official hiking trail, you never get around to it?
We've decided that from now on, we're taking the time. On a motorcycle it's easier, you're right there in the moment and it's small enough to park just about anywhere.
But we are going to endeavor to do it no matter what vehicle we're using. On short road trips and long.
From now on it's about the journey, not the destination :)
