Here are my week one hundred and seventy three recommendations for Three Tune Tuesday

Drum roll please.....

Nick Cave - Fireflies

If you tuned in for week 169 for my Nick Drake Three Tune Tuesday, you could easily come to the conclusion that I am covering all the musically inclined Nick's that I know. No, not quite. There is something else at play here. I got chatting with @gibic about concept albums the previous week when I posted some songs from Pink Floyd's wonderful The Wall album, which of course is a concept record and this got me thinking about my favourite concept records.

Over the past few weeks, I started out on a little journey of discovering these concept records and as each artist intended, we are going to listen to them in the order that they appear on the album, no shuffles here my friends.

I started things off with Nick Cave's brilliantly sad, uplifting, heartbreaking, poignant and beautifully raw album Ghosteen. He breaks the album into two parts, with the first 8 songs making up "The Children" and the last 3 songs making up "The Parents"

I went into detail on why this album means a lot to me in this post for anyone who may be interested, I will not retell it here, but rather share the next 3 songs from this excellent concept album.

Here is the Tenth song Fireflies Speaks, along with it's lyrics.

"Jesus lying in his mother’s arms
Is a photon released from a dying star
We move through the forest at night
The sky is full of momentary light
Everything we need is just too far
We are photons released from a dying star
We are fireflies a child has trapped in a jar
And everything is as distant as the stars
I am here and you are where you are"

Wow, this stream of consciousness is straight from Nick's heart and anyone who has lost a firefly of their own, will understand inately.

"We have lived a long time here in the forest
We lie beneath the heaps of leaves
We are partial to this partial light
We cannot sleep and fear our dreams
There is no order here, nothing can be planned
We are fireflies trapped in a little boy’s hand
And everything is as distant as the stars
I am here and you are where you are"

This is as much poetry as it is music.

Nick Cave - Hollywood

This last song is powerful and sad and Nick deals with his own demons that arose after losing his son Arthur. The dangerous cougar he speaks of is himself as he navigates the experience of being trapped in a kind of grief-stricken purgatory.

"I was halfway to the Pacific Coast
I had left you in your longing
In your yearning like a ghost

There is little room for wonder, now
And little room for wildness too
We crawl into our wounds
I’m nearly all the way to Malibu

I’m gonna buy me a house up in the hills
With a tear-shaped pool and a gun that kills
Cause they say there is a cougar that roams these parts
With a terrible engine of wrath for a heart
That she is white and rare and full of all kinds of harm
And stalks the perimeter all day long
But at night lays trembling in my arms"

Nick Cave - Into My Arms

The above song 'Hollywood' concludes the series on the concept album Ghosteen. There is still room for one more song though, as this album has 11 songs and therefore does not divide equally into three.

How to finish out the series?

Yes...

Yes, that will do, one of my favourite Nick Cave songs. I struggled with my own relationship with God and spirituality when our daughter was taken, but over the years I have come to terms with it and I can really connect with this song and what it is trying to say.

Thanks Nick.

Three Tune Tuesday

That's right, it's Tuesday folks and for our merry little band of ladies and lads, that means sharing tunes, good vibes and engagement. As another week disappears in the rearview mirror, we have loads of engagement and tunes flying around on Three Tune Tuesday and sure isn't that bloody fantastic! I hope you're ready to share three tunes from wherever you find yourself on this magical spinning lump of rock that we all call home and sure you might even sing us a tune if we're lucky?

It's a time of the week when lovers of music, tunes and craic bring their blockchain community three of their finest and brightest tunes to share and celebrate, so let's roll on and let the tunes flow free.

This is my 173rd week waxing lyrical for Three Tune Tuesday and we are still going strong.

It started off with me just sharing tunes into what seemed like a void, but little by little others joined and now I'm thrilled that we have a little corner of Hive where we come and share our tunes every Tuesday, and long may it continue. I almost stopped posting the songs and thoughts a few times, but I stuck with it and now interestingly it is my favorite thing about Hive. I love music and now I have a network of folks around the world who love music too and we share our tunes and catch up with each others tunes and discuss them each week. We get Pop, Metal, Rock, Gospel, Folk, Jazz, Rap, Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, Reggae, Bippy bappidy Flange Hop. Ok I made that one up, but you get the idea, we are all learning about new artists, bands, back stories and sure isn't it just mighty!

Something that excites me the most is that we even get musicians sharing their covers of famous songs and even their own songs from time to time here on #ThreeTuneTuesday, which is a real favorite of mine, as that takes talent, time and dedication.

We are adding New posters and retaining our core of regulars here on #TTT which is fantastic. Let's keep it growing. Over the years, I have listened to fantastic music shared from like-minded folk from around the globe and interacted with their posts. This has led me to genres I don't know well and to some amazing new bands and artists and has even introduced me to some musical instruments I did not know existed. It also allows me to upvote smaller accounts and find some really interesting people from all over the world, which is heartening.

I hope you enjoy the tunes - be sure to tell me all about it in the comments below and above all else, please enjoy the rest of your Tuesday - smile at a stranger, rub a dog, be a nice human to someone who was not expecting it - peace out.

For those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday....

The jist is as follows

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize - more on that later.

HBI contest - win 5HBI

Share your Three Tune Tuesday songs below or create a post with #ttt or #threetunetuesday and mention me so I can find the post.

I'll pick the three songs I enjoyed the most each week as the winner and transfer 1 share of HBI to the winner when this post pays out 7 days from now, but wait there's more...

Do concept albums still exist. Yeah kids of today have the attention span of naff all squared to listen to an album from start to finish 🤣
Losing a child young is something that is not meant to happen. My wife lost her brother and the parents ended up splitting which seems to happen quite often.

Ya man, there's still a few artists making concept records. Two of my 'recent' favourites are Nick Cave's 2019 album Ghosteen and Kendrick Lamar's 2012 album Good Kid M.A.A.D City. Very different but both brilliant.

Losing a child young is something that is not meant to happen.

Yes, that's for sure. We both dealt with ot very differently, I think I made myself extremely busy so that I didn't have to think about it. I tried to be strong for my wife and son who 18 months old at the time. I would cry in the car when driving places alone. It's ten years ago this year, hard to believe. Thanks for commenting and discussing it, many are afraid to, but both my wife and I prefer when people talk openly and we still celebrate her birthday every year with cake at her graveside with our boys and some extended family.

The boys (aged 6,8 and 11) say "Hi Sophia, we love you" every time we drive past the cemetery where she is buried with my Grandparents ❤️

Stories or memories related through songs many great bands performed and meant to run in sequence as lines unfold. Quick listen now, will return to listen and relax, relating to this experience.

Thanks a million Joan. When time allows some time Ghosteen is one to listen to start to finish.

If you know anybody who has lost a child, this album will give a bit of an insight into some of what they go through ❤️

Ghosteen is very melancholy sound, exceptionally nice vocals and backing.

Losing a child in life is a massive loss to face I have friends and family who I will share this with, some never fully accept which is understandable, always questioning.

Oh I did a LOT of questioning... For years... I have come to terms with it now ten years on, and see her as my guardian angel to watch over my three sons, my wife and I ❤️

Some families never fully come to terms, you sound like the best approach has been taken to keep going in a positive direction for the family as a whole. !LUV

Just as books find their readers, so does music and our moods. There are songs that fit perfectly with the day or stage we are living. I liked all three Nick Cave songs, but perhaps because I am grieving the loss of a nephew, the last song bent my soul. Thank you for sharing this song. I will try to participate. Regards

Hi Nancy thanks for stopping byband listening and engaging with such a good comment.

Read and listen to this post to understand a bit more.

Wild Horses especially gets me, but something very beautiful and meaningful about it too ❤️👼
