Bye bye summer - beer & Asian /

Hello beer friends, here is my post to @detlev's weekly Beer Saturday #379 🍺 Thanks a lot for hosting the fun challenge!

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 379

At the end of September, there were still a few warm days left, so I took the chance to savor some final summer beers with a touch of Asian cuisine.

The other day, while my partner was off to track training, my daughter and I made some dumplings for dinner. Since it’s just the two of us, making around 10 dumplings is super easy even I make the wrappers too 😌 As my partner passed by, he mumbled, “Dumplings...nice,” and grabbed one or two before heading off to training. He didn’t want to eat too much before training, but I wasn’t feeling up to making a big dinner at 9 PM either...

Feeling a bit sorry for him, I decided to have a dedicated "Dumpling Day" later on. For me, it was "Beer Day" 😉 When my daughter and I went shopping, I couldn’t decide which beer to pick. So, my daughter made the decision based on the label – a king was pictured on it. She said, “I hope this makes you the queen of Beer Saturday, Mama” 🍺.

As I started preparing the dumpling wrappers, I also began my early evening beer. I thought to myself, this might be the last time this year that I can enjoy both cooking and sipping beer simultaneously—soon, the cold weather will make it tough to handle chilled beer with cold hands 😅

The beer was labeled “Urtrunk,” which made me wonder if it would taste particularly ancient. But in the end, it was a typical German beer with a solid bitterness, which I like.

For the dumpling filling, I sautéed some cabbage, green onions, shiitake mushrooms, ginger, and smoked tofu with a bit of salt and pepper. Then, I wrapped them up and steamed them. Honestly, you could use almost any filling for dumplings! I once read about Italian-style dumplings somewhere, and I’d love to try that one day 🥟

After more than 10 years in Germany, making dumpling wrappers from scratch has become second nature so no failure. I enjoyed the Urtrunk beer with dumplings. Alcohol free Radler for my partner.

The temperature has dropped, and autumn is in full swing here in Germany. From next week, I’ll start experimenting with my personal autumn/winter favorite: dark beers. I’m looking forward to pairing them with food and sharing the results on Beer Saturday 😊

Have a nice weekend!

The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 379

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

I like dumplings but don't know how to make them well. Maybe making them with beer would be easier? Cheers! 😎🍻

Thank you for the BEER @seckorama! It was way in Japan as ready made wrappers were available everywhere … Now I can do it quite well after making it by myself for years in Germany. Maybe German beer helps me 😉
