Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, saturday the 09/11/2024 in history.

We begin today from Germany. The opening of the Berlin Wall. What a day. Now, do you know that on this day in 1989, the Berlin Wall which was seen as a symbol of cold war, built in 1961 to separate West from the Eastern part of Berlin and which stretches as long as a distance of 45km was opened on this day by the Eastern Germany government.

From Germany, we move over to the world of boxing. Do you also know that on this day in 1996, Evander Holyfield won iron Mike Tyson on technical grounds to win for a third time the heavyweight boxing championship.

From the world of boxing, we move over to Asia, Cambodia. Now, on this day in 1953, Cambodia, the southeastern country of Asia got her independence from France. Happy independence anniversary to her.

From Cambodia, we move over to the United States of America. Do you know that on this day in 1923, Alice Coachman, an American athlete who was the first black woman to win an Olympic gold medal was born in Albany, Georgia, U.S.A.

From the USA, we move over to the world of Nobel Prize. Now, on this day in 1922, having delayed in awarding the Noble prize in physics in 1921 till the following year by the Nobel committee, Albert Einstein was named the winner of the Nobel prize in physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from the world of Chess. Do you know that on this day in 1985, a 22 year old Garry Kasparov defeated Anatoly Karpov to become the youngest male world Chess champion.
