I heard the story of a man who found out he was terminally ill out of no where. He did not at any point feel sick, infact he had so much energy that he was always buried in his work.
Always had a meeting at the office, one business trip or the other at the expense of this family life.
He missed his son's concerts on several occasions and always promised to make it up but never did, was almost absent in the life of his spouse and guess what? He always said "I'm working to keep them comfortable, so this job is really important".
One day he slumped and was rushed to the hospital, found out he had very few months to live, and do you know the first thing he did?
Quit his job!
He spent the rest of his life trying to make up for the lost moments with his spouse and child. This must have been really painful.
Now my question is, why did he have to wait for this to happen??
We complain that the life we live is too short, and even still, we waste it.
We don't have all the time in the world, so we should make every time spent worth it.
Like the man in the story was ambitious, hungrily chasing his dreams, honestly that is how it should be. We ought to go all out in whatever we are doing because there's obviously no time to be half hearted.
But for this guy, something was wrong, it wasn't the way he chased his dreams but the content of his dreams were lacking.
Often times, when we picture an ambitious person, we only see a person that is soaring in his or her craft or career.
This is good, but the other things that matter are often neglected.
Building a stable relationship, whether it is with family or friends should be considered an ambition too, it is as important as getting promoted in the office or hitting that big sale.
Time is a very expensive currency that we should spend, on our loved ones and nature because at the end of the day, they truly matter.
Our ambitions will not stop us from enjoying life to the fullest, spending time with family and other little things that mean everything, if we see them as part of our ambitions too.
