Medium was great.

I remember writing consistently on the platform, interacting with other writers, and joining in different publications as a contributor.

I would say that I learned a lot from it and made some friends in the community. I also used it to drive traffic to my blog and get more readers.

Since 2021, I have been writing on Medium and publishing random blogs. I met new bloggers and learned a lot from them. While I consider them as a friend, on top of my head, I also consider them as my competitors.

For over three years of writing and staying on Medium, I accumulated a total of more than 500 followers. It is not a lot for other users but I, getting more than 100 is actually an achievement.

I used Medium to get ideas from other successful writers. There are a lot of writers who are successful in the game on this platform and I always get an idea and inspiration from them to continue blogging.

The platform amazes me for seeing popular authors such as Nicolas Cole and even the former President of America, Barrack Obama.

Now, it saddens me to know that Medium is now filtering the links that you can include in your posts. I know that the team is just trying their best for the business – it is natural for them to restrict some links that are also their competitor.

Recently, I was trying to publish a post from my blog, and using the Import feature of Medium, I was trying to import it. After editing some parts of the content and organizing the format, I simply hit publish and a notification appeared.

This notification disappointed me.

I don’t even put spam links. I only embed links for the sake of SEO which are some internal and external links from my site and other websites. But those links are related to the post itself.

I also don’t put any affiliate links on my posts.

This led me to search for the rules and policy of Medium.

Seeing this, I am thinking about the use of the Import feature on the platform considering these rules and policies.

Knowing that this is a Web 2.0 platform and a third-party website to publish your blog. The team can suspend your account without any notice. Who will want to wake up in the morning, trying to write content, only to find out that your blog is now suspended?

To avoid this conflict, I decided to leave Medium when it comes to writing but will still read content from authors who don’t have a paywall.

Besides, Medium is not paying me since I am not eligible for their Partner Program. Although the Philippines is now on the list of countries to be eligible, I am not sure if I can still continue writing on the platform.

As of now, I see Medium as a place to spend money if you want to read quality content, but I don’t think I will spend it here for now because I get more value on Hive and on my website when it comes to writing content.

Nevertheless, I am sure that Medium is one of the best places for writers to get more views and build their brand as it has more than 100 million active users monthly. But since I want to own my content and want to have full control of it, I will continue writing on Hive and to my website instead.

I feel like Medium is more like for a professional people, thay it should be formal and or something. You know that, haha. Basta ganon. Parang feeling ko lang di uubra and di mapapansin ang basta basta lang na article.

Uy 'di ah, okay din naman Medium. There are other newbie writers there, kaso ngayon may restrictions na 'yung links so I will stay on Hive na lang.

Saka mas well known din talaga ang medium sa iba no, unlike other blogging site. Imagine even knows people use it

Yep! Barrack Obama use it 😃

100M MAUs? That's huge! However, I am tired of censorship. First on Reddit and next on Torum. I am satisfied with minimal interaction on Hive.

Torum

Ooh, I just can't say anything to this but I feel that it has no growth.

I received a huge following there on my first day after the recommendation of one influencer. The following day, I can no longer access my account.
