Is crypto a hobby or a job for you?

in #hive-1679223 years ago

As I have posted new content on Leo Finance community and Hive blockchain and while I have missed being consistent my mind flew asking if the crypto should be a hobby or a job...? There is a clear distinction between the two options as I see it because if I consider it as a hobby I become lazy and make smaller steps in achieving my goals. If I was to shift my thinking and consideration of it as a job, I would need to put up the work in order to get my monthly paycheck and that should bring the right mindset to be more consistent and not jump steps, find shortcuts or simply delay it for another time to do it.

I think we all face this question and we have periods when I am highly motivated to be in the space and others when our motivation falls down. But if we would look at crypto as a job that should make us fight more with ourselves in order to reach our targets. And what is great about this even if it is a "job" is that we are our own boss and we need to respond only to ourselves.

Another thing that keeps my eyes on the ball is to set some clear goals from the crypto hustle. Let's say you want to become financially independent gratitude to cryptocurrencies, thus it means you need to be clear about what level of income you need in order to achieve that. I think having a monthly target is the best way to go with it in order not to micromanage your earnings on a daily basis and use that time to produce more and think of the next moves. You can use a "budget" like a sheet for 2 months and track the earnings on each month and their equivalent to fiat currency.

Overall I think that we need a specific mindset when being involved in crypto in case we want to use it as a financial escape from traditional jobs or simply to reach some milestone and complete any project we put our mind to. For me probably would work better if I look at it as a job: have a specific amount of time allotted to it, have a checklist with the duties that need to be done and complete it on a daily basis. Maybe even have it more relaxed on the weekend but nevertheless, follow it as if you were at work. That's what it might work for me (I need to put this in practice), but at the same time, I wonder how do you see this and what works for you...?

Sort:

I have a mental checklist of daily things I check on each day Like #1 would be to go to Listnerds and read mail. So on like that. It onto paper would be a good thing to do and putting your earning onto a spread sheet.

Both

At some point most people in crypto will take it more seriously as the earnings will tell you that. I know I will be full time in crypto at some point in the future but not for a while yet.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I assume crypto as a Job. That's one of the reasons,I do make out time to be online.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

If it was a job I would have starved to death long ago!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hobby for now, but in the future I would love to do it full time

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I see it as a job, but no lie, being your own boss with nothing pushing you can make me lazy at times lol

!ALIVE

@behiver! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @globetrottergcc. (6/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want.

I wouldn't spend almost my entire day on a hobby! I like how @acesontop phrased it: a way of life.

;)

A hobby.

And ...fun job

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It started as an interesting hobby but has moved towards a job i think.

There is enough money in this space to pay a wage as long as your consistent with your work but it's fun and flexible while you do it.

I try to spend a couple of hours a day online and working but that's all the time i have for it right now.

You can actually get as much done in two hours as i used to do in five when i was only messing around. If i ever stop enjoying it i will stop but until then it's the best way ive ever found to earn online.

For me it is interesting to know those people who are answering that is a job, not a hobby to them, how to they earn enough money for living?
Writing blogs and minining is one thing, but working for crypto is the interesting part.
Currently I am looking for job related with crypto. Yesterday I found this website: https://blockew.com/ which is very insane and I will start to re-make my CV right now.

If someone can advise or share their story will be very helpfull for the rest of us.

Thanks :)

!BEER

You need to stake more BEER (24 staked BEER allows you to call BEER one time per day)

It's become my job lol

I mean, I always had the idea of making a living from this stuff and it's slowly becoming a reality. But I'm maybe a solid year away from my 5 year plan...

So no stopping now :)

Thanks to @thisismylife for sharing this post on ListNerds too! Awesome post that brings up a great question!

But I'm maybe a solid year away from my 5 year plan...

Time to start working on another 5 year plan.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

10 years it is!!!!

Nah, a hobby, I used to wonder how celebrities felt, doing what they love and getting paid for it. Now I know what that feels like

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Nicely said, but would it be the same with no income?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I have no income other than crypto...

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

We do it for the culture 🤝

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I'm here for the culture too :D

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Technically it is a job since I'm a full-time investor, but it certainly doesn't feel like one. :-)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

At this point, crypto is definitely just a hobby, albeit a hobby that comes with a nice "savings account." But just looking at some of the top contributors in the Hive/Leo ecosystem and what they earn... and comparing that to what our monthly cost of living is, there's pretty much no way this could provide "a living" at the moment, especially given that we don't have a huge amount of capital to buy in with.

But it's certainly a nice — and growing — sideline!

=^..^=

I think it's like a job but has also fun in it especially when it comes to NFTs and crypto games. I know some guys doing crypto as a full time job and they are doing well as far as I can say.

Still have a job in a company but I absolutely consider to grow my crypto income and get rid of any job.
Even once I can live from crypto I would not consider as a job but more of a lucrative activity which I enjoy doing :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

A rewarding hobby for the moment 😊

Rewarding indeed and social activity at the same time.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I guess I treat crypto as a side hustle.

My end goal is to stack enough for my holdings to be an income generating asset that I can skim a passive income off the top of.

Without ever touching that base capital.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I don't make enough yet so I guess for me it is a hobby. I can see where it could be a job but I believe there is some lead time to educate oneself and understand what is going on. Thanks for the post.

Am starting to take this crypto as a job because it makes me feel independent and I will want to put more effort in it

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

A.. jhobby maybe?

I'm trying to get more serious and committed about crypto but it's been hard. I have a job and I'm also building my own business (not crypto related, at least not yet) on the side and sometimes it's hard to dedicate the time I believe I should be dedicating to crypto. So I think to me it's a hobby that I try to be pretty serious about and may one day become a job

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Why do we consider it is the hobby first, and then will be our job. Jumping crypto space as a job too early seems too risky

Posted using LeoFinance Mobile

Crypto means a lot to me. A bank, a job, a source of income. In short, a world where I can manage my own assets. I like to be in control of my assets.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Fair enough.. it seems to be a full time job .. to get used to this scenario.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

For a year plus now, I've been building basically everything around crypto, it's quite an empowerment, and with leofinance, it's an awesome experience daily...

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Empowerment is a great word for it and from that, we can shape a great financial future while building trust in a new way of living.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

All my income streams are actually one way or the other in crypto. It can be staked crypto for passive income, earnings from content creation on Hive, emailing on Listnerds and a big part comes from my social media management jobs for a few Hive projects.

I can't call it a hobby anymore, even if I'd like to. But I've considered it my job for several years now, even when the pay was way too low for the effort I put in :) lol

!1UP

Ps I shared this post on Listnerds as I'm curious about the answers :)

That's going full-on crypto and I see it the same as if you depend on it, you need to put in the work to make it thrive.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, with a little side-note that my boyfriend had regular pay on the side while I could build my crypto things up. But still, only recently have things are really falling into place and aligning as I wished for a long time. I think I"ve always put my best effort into everything, but I've learned so much in the past 6 months that this has truly helped me to be even better. Which feels great.

The thought that using crypto to profit is awesome. I view it as more a hobby that I enjoy. I also earn some passive income. A few dollars a day suits me, obviously nice to earn more. It's given me a lot more options in regards to investing. There's so much to choose, few minutes and you have staked $20 into polycub !

This is a good idea if truly you wan to be financially free.. getting to understand crypto investment and not just jumping into it

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I see it as a hobby that pays me. I'd never consider it a job because if I did, I'd work 99% of the time lol

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You're right on that, but that would mean to take it more seriously. Not enough hours in the day for crypto :)))

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

it is a mix of both for me. As a content creator, I know what to write to earn more money but i still make out time and space to talk about the things i care about.

However, crypto pays my bills so i am more consistent with it. I know it would be different if i was totally indifferent about earning.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Right now a hobby! But I think it will never be a job. Because it's fun especially when you are on Hive & Leo Finance. I can call it a game. 😋

But yes, I have got bills to pay and poverty to escape. I think crypto can make me financially free and that's my goal for the next five years.

I consider it more as a hobby just because I don't have nearly enough knowledge or income sources to guarantee my financial independence. If anything, I would have to get use to taking profits from crypto for any type of bear market and it's something that I haven't thought of yet.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I hustle hard, but it is definitely a hobby for me. I have a career I am going to be retiring from in couple of years that covers the job side of things. Lucky for me that job allows me the time to pursue my hobby in parallel with said job!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Quite similar for me, but at the same time if I would earn more from crypto would allow me the freedom to do only that. But with high volatility not sure that is possible...

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, it would take a pretty big win for me and a large move into some stables to make me feel comfortable doing this full time. My passive stream would need to annually equal at least what I am making now.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hey @behiver I have a checklist, logbook, 1% per average a day win compound interesting is my goal and i see it as a job.

Cheers 🍻

As you said, motivation can be a problem but I had the privilege to turn my hobby into a job.

At first, it was just mining and occasional writing for tech-related websites but now I'm a full-time Hiver and I have a crypto writing gig fully paid in crypto.

There is nothing else in the world that kept my interest for so long so I'm actually thinking that crypto is my life now, along with being a job and a hobby.

I can relate to this . I have been trying to complete my javascript and ux course for quite some time now, but I just don't have the motivation to do that. It's really a concern of mine. ONe part of wants to commit totally to crypto and another part wants me to reinvent myself. It is a constant struggle.

Been there and can confirm that it sucks. At some point, you'll have that talk with yourself and things will just fall into place.

I guess it all starts making sense once you figure out where you want to be rather than who you want to be. You'll always be you, but it's always better to be the financially free you.

This is also where conviction comes into play.

I'm personally 100% certain that crypto will play a huge role in our society and it ain't going anywhere. This conviction helps me stay motivated because I'm set on that one place where I want to end up in say 10 years from now.

Hope that helps.

Last year I left my job and focused all of that energy on my crypto-job (My Hive blog and other crypto-land stuff). I find treating things as what you actually want them to be brings about the growth and resources you are looking for. Or something like that lol!

That said, since I started focusing more of my energy in this realm, things have really taken off. I'm not quite where I want to be earnings wise for my work to be considered a sustaining income, but I'm just gonna keep putting the work in.

Also what you said about clear goals is spot on. The clearer, more defined the better!

Found you thanks to @thisismylife on Listnerds😊

I think you will make it happen ;)
You are dedicated and clearly willing to put in the effort, share valuable stuff, and make the content look good.

Now some luck with some things and you're good!

2022 Will be great!

Ooh! Mutual feelings alert! When I think of someone who puts the work in, your Punks avatar pops into my brain.😊

I too think this year is going to be a super great one for our community!

Thank you 1000 btw😊

Neither.

I would say it is a passion of mine. This is something that is really making a difference in lives and that excites me.

I know hive from 2022. I love playing games, got hustle for booming NFT games from 2021 so I want to try and play blockchain games too, also I like to share with other people/writing blog about it, then I discovered Hive from Leofinance, so I am joining in.

Right now I just put a small amount of my time to write or stay active in the community.

if I look at it as a job: have a specific amount of time allotted to it, have a checklist with the duties that need to be done and complete it on a daily basis.

When I read this, it makes me think the same way, if I put a lot of work and create more ideas on Hive, it might become a good reward for me, and hive has the potential to flip my work income per month, active and passive way. With that ideas come to my mind, I hope I can do it the right way, meaning create value for the community, then earn rewards for myself.

So, Is crypto a hobby or a job for me? I still considered it as my hobby because I am still learning, and enjoying my time on Hive.
