Hi my name is Vicky and I love cycling. My family tell me that the lift doesn't go all the way to the top with me . I don't know what they mean by that. My uncle told me I was a few of sandwiches short of a picnic. I don't know what that means either. Also my brother keeps saying I have a screw loose. But I don't have any screws in me. The most confusing one is my beloved father telling me that I am "away with the fairies and even they are trying to run away on me". I just laugh as he loves me very much.
My friends were getting money for free on something called Hive so I said why not become a professional cyclist because I am good at cycling to the shop to get my dad his daily bottle of tequila so I applied for funding and I received it. I am so lucky. This is the best.
The good people at Hive gave me lots of Hive so I could buy a nice fancy bike. The first ride was not so good though because I fell off it and damaged the spokes , my helmet and the saddle. Such bad luck. But the good people of Hive gave me another 5,000 HBD to buy an even better bike so that I would not crash again. I purchased a lovely one with ribbons on the handlebars for 2,500 HBD and used the rest to buy a laptop and a heart monitor for myself as a treat. But the wire on the heart monitor got caught in my bike wheels which sent me over the handlebars and into a thorny ditch. Such bad luck. I have not even started training yet and the bike is already damaged. I really hope the good people of Hive believe that I am just really unlucky. My hero is Eddie the Eagle. He was good at skiing.
My Uncle says about falling off a horse, you have to get back up on it straight away. He is in a wheelchair though after falling off a horse. He said he didn't get back up on the horse he fell off so I don't get his advice! But I did what he said because he is my elder but the brakes were still not working and I crashed into a wall. Such bad luck.
The people at Hive fund were kind enough to pay for the repair of my helmet, new shocks absorber things and the brakes for my bike. My father said if I have no brakes then I should definitely win the races. He is such as joker. I received another 1,000 HBD from Hive. I am so happy Hive has so much money to give away. I purchased some brakes and headphones out of this. The good ones. Those Steinenburg ones. No not the brakes silly , the headphones!! Anyway the nice man fixed my bike again. He was concerned I was not ready for the big race as I was only a beginner but I will show him.
Bad news everyone. I waited until the race was cycling past me and then I joined the race and was with the main group called the Pelothon. They were looking at me strangely wondering why I was in the race. It was hard to keep up with them. I tried really hard but in the end I couldn't go anymore. I was in the middle of this pelothon when I stopped pedaling and caused a pile up. The other cyclists were not happy with me especially the man whose face scrapped off the ground and all his skin came off. He called me a danger to cycling but I will show him. My coach told me to take the cornflake reflectors and the tassels off the bike because they make me look out of place. The nice people at Hive gave me another 2,000 HBD to repair my bike and buy Mr Two-Face a nice bunch of flowers so there is a nice smell on the hospital ward. The bike repair cost me 300 HBD and I got Mr Two Face a bunch of flowers. OK OK I picked the flowers from a local flower bed because I had a plan for the rest of the money. I needed to unwind so I booked myself into a nice fancy hotel with the rest of the money.
I met the bike shop owner in the hotel. He said I was putting his kids through college and that if I ever wanted anything from him such as receipts then he will do some fake receipts for extra. Wow Wee. People are so nice around here and this hotel was so lovely I wanted to stay here again. So I asked the nice bike shop man to given me a receipt for $1,000 in my local currency and pretend that he fixed the bike. I gave him $200 for his time and with the remaining $800 I stayed in the nice hotel again the week after but I took my parents with me this time. My father told my mother than I was doing well for a reta-, (I didn't get the last bit) , who took out half the cyclists in the last race but I took it as a compliment.
I was making so much money from my cycling races that I could give up my job packing bags in the grocery store. I liked this but I have enough money now. This could not be done without Hive. I am no longer Vicky who puts the detergent in the same bag with the fruit. I am now Vicky Velocity Champion Bike Rider.
My father said he would manage me for a small fee from my monthly Hive funding. I asked him what percentage because I learned this in school. He said 85% which seems fair enough. But it only leaves a small amount for me to travel to races. He says it is important that he manages me as he has to sign and pay for important documents for me to compete in races. This time last year my dad could not read. I do not know where he learned to read since then. He is amazing. He is full of surprises like this. Him and mam are going on more hotel breaks without me. I have to stay at home to mind my little brothers. But he is very busy with my documentation that he needs a break. It is alot of stress for him. I am so thankful he is looking out for me.
My father said I should ask Hive for more funding as the cycling game is expensive. But I am puzzled because my bike did not cost anything since the last crash. I do not cost anything but he said the race entry fees are after going up. They race people are robbers but my dream has to be fulfilled. The next race is in Maracay so we were going to stay in a nice 5 star hotel there. My father was so happy that he took some friends as well. He said it might be better for me to stay in another hotel so I can fully concentrate on the big race in the morning so I stayed in a hostel nearby. His friends shouted that the "coke and hoes are arriving" while he rushed me out of the hotel but I don't know what that means. Maybe hoe is a type of pizza. I did not sleep much though as I was sharing with 17 other people in the dorm. I do not think my father made the right decision. The next day my father said that the paperwork was not filled out properly to take part in the race. However he wanted to still take photos of me on my bike at the start line for some reason so I put on my happy face and pretended I was in the race. He then took me a few kilometres up the road and told me to fall off the bike and look hurt. I did what he asked and we used some red food colouring to add to the scene. He told me I was a great actress so from now on I think I want to become a famous actress. I don't really like up hills all that much anyway.
We asked the good people of Hive for another 2,000 HBD funding for a new bike even though my own bike was fine. But once I have receipts from the man in the bike shop and the photos then nobody will say anything. My father is putting pressure on me to ask for more. But the race people told their security to look out for people joining races mid way through. I am not allowed into any more races over what happened in my first race so I do not know what forms my father is filling out.
I think from now on we will just take pictures of the start line and the finish line and a few times a year I will have a crash. I prefer acting now anyway. My father says if I act for a few more years then he will get me a part in a new film. He has even joined Hive now and is doing some conferences. I am so glad for him. But he is still focusing on me as an actress. Vicky Velocity is no more. Vicky Versatile is my new name. My father said if he brings me to a conference I can take the part of a blockchain developer and sit at the Hive stand the whole day. He goes off on important business so I can act on my own. Hive has been so good to us. We are very grateful.
