pausing to look back

How quickly the days and weeks disappear.

If it weren’t for these little poems and these weekly posts, what would I actually remember?

It’s always surprising to me how much of each day just slips away.

Where does it all go?

There are those who say we do actually record every minute detail of our lives somewhere in our memories.

And there are people living with photographic memories.

Does their existence prove the above claim to be true?

I wonder what it would be like to recall the exact position of each marble my son left on the floor on some evening two or three weeks ago.

I wonder what it would be like to remember the details of more important things than scattered marbles.

Perhaps some day I’ll find out.

pausing to look back …
the striking beauty of
a well swept path

pointing blame
the missing remote

defiant
tree roots crack
the road

do they turn red
in ones or twos or threes
the maple leaves

remembering
another me

It seems I am doing well enough just to remember the things I need to do to get through the day lol.

So long as you show up where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there, right?🤣

They are very short poems of a beautiful subtlety, which record the everyday casual movements that make up our lives. Attractive photos. Greetings, @boxcarblue.

I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed my post. Thank you for stopping by.

Thank you @boxcarblue ,

Lovely poetry...quite a beautiful series of thoughts.

What is not to enjoy in a well swept path...if only when we looked back on our day...etc... we saw a well swept path.....hardly possible...not at all. ^__^

Kind Regards,

Bleujay

NB Lovely photography...and how very interesting....the last one...oh yes..let it be so. ^__^

Yes, I would love to be able to look back on each day and see a well swept path behind me. Maybe that’s something that I can turn into a goal for myself.

Where has the time gone indeed. I have a pretty good memory, but I've probably forgotten more than I can remember. It is funny/weird though when I see something or something happens that reminds me of something else that happened many years ago, that I haven't thought of in ages.

It's almost like it's not real, like it's some story I heard of read.

Enjoyed your poems

That is strange, isn’t it? The way you can remember something that you didn’t even know you remembered.

When those memories get triggered, they feel so familiar and obvious, on the one hand, but on the other hand, it’s like, woah, where did that come from?

I’m always amazed how hard it can be sometimes to remember what I’ve eaten for lunch earlier in the day, or for dinner two nights before. I guess it’s a sign that I’m distracted a lot.

Very well written poem. Photographic memory would be wonderful, but as I get a little older I struggle to remember as well as I would like. You made me think of a card I once read: Yes, I have a photographic memory, I'm just out of film.... Maybe that's the problem. lol

It sounds like you are making the best of having one more young one around. I miss having a kid that age, but don't know if I would have the energy to do it all again!

It’s definitely true that film is hard to find these days. 🤣 I think I just forget to take the cap of the lens too often because I’m in too much of a hurry going from one thing to the next. (Remember that problem? Ruining an entire batch of vacation photos because you never took the cap off the camera?)

Yeah, having a little one around is fun, but it does take a lot of time and energy. In some ways, it keeps you young, but in other ways, it makes you feel like you’ve gotten older.

Honestly, the hardest part, is balancing the different needs of each kid. It’s really hard to help the older kids do their homework or navigate their pissy moods because you don’t want them turning the TV on in front of the little when the toddler is having a meltdown.
