Tomorrow they will adjust the performance levels and tweak the system so it generates the required power.
Finally the system has been on for a few hours and we shall see how well it performs tomorrow s we are currently in the middle of a thunderstorm. The house is not totally off grid as yet as we still need the hot water system converted onto it's own independent solar system. This system as been ordered and expect that to be in place some time next week.
I took some photos of the system and tomorrow I will have the app on my phone which will hopefully start to make more sense. The only downside right now is the system is still configuring so it is resetting by turning the power supply on and off. I am sure the family will be happy when thy get home and will fail to mention this part lol.
The problem over the last few days has been finding a deep enough piece of ground that can take the earth spike which is 1.2 m long. We are on a slight hill and the ground is very rocky and after numerous attempts they finally found a spot.
The other part that will take us off the grid entirely is the electrical stove to be replaced with a gas hob. Again that is a good two weeks away and knew the installation of the solar system would trigger other areas of spend. The hot water system I guess will be in the range of $1.3K and I have two of those to get done and will do one at time. The moving to gas I have no clue and a thumb suck is around $3K.
The costs are certainly adding up, but you have to always keep in mind once this has been done there are no more costs for hopefully another 15-20 years. This has been in the planning stages for so long and it is great to slowly see this coming together. I have been some what the guinea pig with my house being the test case for another friend of mine.
I know a few others who have talked about converting to solar and are concerned about finances yet the sooner you do it the sooner you will start saving. If it is a money issue we know this will always be the case and only when they have no other choice will they do this. I suspect by the end of next year they will all have solar systems due to the ever increasing power prices.
