House Of Flavors Review

This evening we popped into the House Of Flavors an Indian Restaurant in the town center of Reading. I have visited this place previously in July last year when we were over with the entire family. The impression it left made me want to come back and experience the flavors again and try something different

What is pretty cool is the table is made from what looks like an old printing tray filled with different spices tat will be used in the various dishes on the menu.

We started off with some poppadum's and a selection of chutneys with my favorite being the mango chutney and the black sesame seeds. This type of food you just do not find in South Africa and why it was a must do again.

There are not may places left that deliver your food via trolley and can remember certain well known restaurants that used to use this delivery method for their sweet trolleys. This allows one waiter to service the entire table and not using multiple trips allowing the patrons to get their food all at the same time.

We messed up as I forgot to order the rice thinking it automatically came with the dishes. This was a quick fix as the rice would be ready in the kitchen needing to just be dished up.

My brother had a Lamb Karai which was a tomato based with ginger and garlic with a medium type chili heat. He does not do hot spicy food and he loved every mouthful. He has ever visited this place before and he was impressed with the value and quality.

My wife had a prawn curry (North Indian garlic chili king prawn) which turned out to be way too hot for her even though it was on the menu as a medium heat. She had to give up and was stealing my butter naan bread instead.

I had the Lamb Saagwala which is a spinach based with a fenugreek spice which is a licorice type flavor and even though I enjoyed it I would not try this again. I do not like licorice and if I had known would have avoided this. I used the prawn sauce instead so this worked out conveniently well.

We had a couple of portions of butter naan bread to accompany the meal and it was really very good. For someone who enjoys spicy food I rarely get the chance to do this and if the opportunity is around I will never say no.

The meal for 3 of us with a couple bottles of spring water and a few juices came to around 88 GBP which is roughly $100. I felt this was reasonably good value for the quality that was dished up. By the time we were leaving the restaurant was full of locals who were mainly of Indian descent so they must approve which is always a good sign.

Great looking food. You have made me really hungry for the good Indian food. We have a lot of Indian restaurants in Seattle area, some are really good. I will just have to convince my wife to go out to one again :)

$100 for three people is in the normal range for a good quality Indian restaurant in our area.

Our Indian restaurants are boring and why when we travel we tend to seek them out.

Seeing food connoisseurs in the same restaurant is always a good sign, whenever I'm abroad and want mexican food, I always look for the ones owned by mexicans, that serve to mexicans lol

Wow, the food looks great! House of Flavors is an ice cream place over here!

I'm catching up on some posts. Wow that lamb karai looks good. It looks like something I'd order if I went there!

Haha you got a bit unlucky with the licorice one. I think you should get the one your brother ordered next time if you go!

Ya if local Indians like it, it must be pretty good and authentic
