Where Birds Usually Sing

The hills has been quiet most times. The streams are not quite still. They spoke of the same language, they all tell the same thing--that they live together here.

It rained longer today. The sunny mornings have been cut short by the sudden gloomy skies. The rain fall felt like hours when it had been minutes of rain. There was no rest for everyone here at the farm where I was, the birds had been very busy since day break because they knew it would rain. The nesting season had begun as I saw some mama birds brought dried grasses as they flew, and every minute I saw a new one. I would often hear them sing near the cabin where I stayed. They were my constant companion. Though I never thought about them before.

A month had passed since I arrived at the farm school. It never rained here before, but now it began to rain every single day--reminding me of the home I left. Sadness begins to creep in every time I look outside my window, but I learned to brush it all away to help me cope up. My days are lonely, and the farm work is a bit overwhelming for me. I never prepared myself for this changes in life. All the hard work and loneliness it brings. No words seemed to help relieving the sadness I felt. Words aren't my thing, but one thing haunts me in all of my farm stay was,

"I live here. I was here even before the farm was built!"

I heard those words one night as I was deep in my sleep. Those words echoed in my mind. I never realized there were elves here too and the farm was their homeland. There were lots of them beneath the old trees along the streams around the farm. Some were little, some were not even humanlike. They live together and protect each other. Perhaps they viewed me as their enemy, I have been warned 'they were here before I was here.' I know that I should not messed up with them. I never went there again to that part of the farm. I wasn't familiar of the place which they call home. In my dream it was a tight knit community where all had work to do. Not at all in reality, it was a place least visited by people but a home to a few animals in the farm. There was a shed not used by anyone anymore. The shed was dry and was abandoned by quite some time now. Perhaps they built a place there. Leaving the place they call home because people had visited quite too often on the place they once built.

I never saw them on my dreams again. Yet I know they were just beneath the trees where birds usually sing. Where it was always cool when the sun is full. Living like us out of the gazes of people--because fairies live here too.

I thought I was reading something that happened outside our country! I was about to comment about the elves' part—of how we also had a folklore (duwende )about it, then when I read your about me part, oh no wonder (◡‿◡)... Anyway, I liked how you vividly described the settings because it allows me to accurately imagine the place... It was a short yet charming story~♡

I don't know how to write bangungot stories, sleep paralysis doesn't sound like our own local stories but it happened. I'm not sure if they were duwende or encanto😣.. thank you for reading it💕💕💕. I write stories with local historical fiction feel. Like in lapu-lapu's time if I had a chance😆

The elves seemed to send you away from where you thought was home. Well, home is always home no matter what

Thank you so much💕💕 I don't actually know how to think about them🥺 you opened my mind

Good thing you started writing again. It will help you calm down and resolve your thoughts.

This is an affecting piece. You write with feeling and are able to convey that feeling to the reader.
One thing you should watch for is tenses. Your tenses tend not to agree with each other and this interferes with the positive impression of the piece.

You do a nice job here...a little bit more intro perhaps, in the start, might have been helpful, also, but as it is the intro does place us in the scene immediately. Also, the piece could have been longer, more information.

Overall though, this was a pleasant piece to read. Thank you for sharing the experience with us.

Thank you😍😍

Keep up the good work. 👏
