Getting Back Into Blender

in #hive-14844111 days ago

Back during the lockdown a friend of mine taught, and basically done live lesson in Blender with me and another friend. The three of us would literally do 8-10 hours sessions over the course of a couple of weeks, but then we stopped and since then I've brought up wanting to do that again.

It's very confusing at first, I mean even navigating the plain where the objects are is confusing and a bit difficult, but it's really easy to pick up when you have someone there you can ask questions to and talk with about the process.

I've always been interested in the modeling side of things, but sadly he has never done it so isn't even sure himself how to get started with it.

Together we would make rooms, and eventually made a house which was cool, but I really wanted to do other stuff which we never got a chance to look into.

His rationale was "it's better to learn this basic stuff before going for advanced stuff," my rationale was, "I want to make spaceships and stuff like that instead of kitchens."

We did have a lot of fun, but never spend long enough doing those sessions to get into other types of stuff.

Back To It

I rang him up the other day and asked if he'd be interested in starting the sessions up again. He said it had been a while for him too and he hadn't used it in ages so would have to kind of relearn, but agreed.

We met up today but could only get a few hours in, it was productive though and we had some fun relearning it as we got to work. Some things I remembered, but much of it was like new.

We're designing buildings, and creating a miniature city that I can use for some of the sci-fi story videos I'm making and releasing at the moment. There aren't many close up buildings, so it's just basic shapes for the most part, but they do have a fair few added details, like windows and lights.

I want the images to be 3D, to a certain extent with some moving images, and essentially it'll be static landscape shots that act more like gif/ screensavers, basically it's just to have the general vibe of the place the story takes place.

B'iam's Tribute (the story being released at the moment) is set in West-Sec, which is a pre-war industrial hub, so it's old and rundown, with plumes of smoke. It's dark, but from this region you can see the brightly lit city in the distance which is essentially a beacon of light to the people who live in this particular region.

We're each working on models, and when it's time to set the scene they'll all be downloaded by one of us and positioned, to then be rendered out.

Ugh, I tried, but I never learned. :(

Before my friend showed me I was watching tutorials on YouTube, but when I got into it, it was really awkward. It helps to have someone there in the beginning who can talk you through the basics

I've played around with the basics of Blender, but I don't find the time now. People do amazing stuff with it. I'm sure there must be other modellers on Hive. Have fun.

!BEER

Seeing some of the great things people can do is fascinating to me. I'm not good at it, but being able to play around and have things come to life is really cool, it is time consuming though
