Honestly, I don't know why this series wasn't talked about more at the time, because it's a complete gem from start to finish. Every second of this series is worth it, and I repeat: it's a gem.
La serie de la que estoy hablando es Love, Death & Robots. Es una serie de animación espectacular que me atrapó desde el primer segundo que la vi. Supe que estaba frente a una verdadera joyita. La serie explora temas tan humanos como el amor, la muerte y la relación que tenemos las personas con la tecnología. Por supuesto, la serie tiene una visión futurista de lo que podría ser el futuro (o lo que será), el papel que podríamos tener como raza y todas las implicaciones morales a las que nos tendríamos que enfrentar. Cada capítulo de la serie es autoconclusivo, lo que quiere decir que no es una serie secuencial y que cada episodio es independiente del otro. Lo interesante de la serie es que cuenta una historia en muy poco tiempo, ya que los capítulos son cortos, rondando entre los 10 y 20 minutos. Pero juro que, en pocos minutos, es capaz de mostrarnos la belleza de la historia que nos esté contando, siendo una estimulación directa a los sentidos.
The series I'm talking about is Love, Death & Robots. It's a spectacular animated series that hooked me from the very first second. I knew I was in front of a real treasure. The series explores deeply human themes such as love, death, and the relationship we have with technology. Of course, the series has a futuristic vision of what the future could be (or will be), the role we might have as a species, and all the moral implications we would face. Each episode of the series is self-contained, meaning it's not sequential and each episode is independent of the others. The interesting thing about the series is that it tells a story in very little time since the episodes are short, ranging between 10 and 20 minutes. But I swear that in just a few minutes, it manages to show us the beauty of the story it's telling, and it's a direct stimulation to the senses.
Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de la serie es cómo nos muestra la tecnología y el uso que le damos. No se presenta la tecnología como algo necesariamente bueno o malo, sino como algo que utilizamos para lograr nuestros deseos y ambiciones. En un capítulo, se nos puede mostrar la tecnología como un objeto de control y dominio, mientras que en otros se nos puede presentar como algo más profundo, mostrando cómo puede manipular nuestra realidad. Nos adentramos en una zona en la que la simulación puede convertirse en la realidad que preferimos, ya que nos permite evitar el dolor, la pena y todo aquello que nos pueda hacer daño. La tecnología, en este sentido, se convierte en una droga o un modo de vida.
One of the most interesting aspects of the series is how it shows us technology and the way we use it. It doesn't portray technology as something necessarily good or bad, but rather as something we use to fulfill our desires and ambitions. In one episode, technology is shown as a tool of control and domination, while in others it is shown as something much deeper, as we see how technology can manipulate our reality. We enter a zone where simulation becomes the reality we prefer, as it allows us to avoid pain, sorrow, and anything that might hurt us. In this sense, technology becomes a drug or a way of life.
Otro punto interesante de la serie es cómo aborda la relación entre humanos y máquinas, pero desde un punto de vista más filosófico. En un capítulo, se habla de la trascendencia y el propósito, donde el artista busca la verdad a través del análisis de su obra y se da cuenta de que la grandeza de su arte no reside en lo complejas o buenas que puedan ser sus obras, sino en la simplicidad con la que se mantienen. Puede sonar algo complicado, pero esto es lo que nos hace humanos, lo que nos hace grandes: la belleza de lo simple, la grandeza de lo pequeño y humilde. Esta dualidad es la que te deja pensando, y eso es lo maravilloso de la animación, que logra hacerte reflexionar.
Another interesting point in the series is how it addresses the relationship between humans and machines, but from a more philosophical perspective. In one episode, transcendence and purpose are explored, where the artist seeks truth through the analysis of his work and realizes that the greatness of his art doesn't lie in how complex or good his works are, but in the simplicity with which they can be maintained. It may sound complicated, but this is what makes us human, what makes us great: the beauty of simplicity, the greatness of the small and humble. This duality is what leaves you thinking, and that’s the beauty of animation – it makes you reflect.
La serie también aborda el amor, pero no desde una perspectiva romántica ni idealizada, sino mostrando que el amor es mucho más complicado que simplemente sostener la mano de la persona que amas o dar un beso. En la serie, el amor es un tema recurrente. En un capítulo se muestra el amor que te impulsa a evolucionar, el amor que te lleva a tus límites, el que te hace moverte de donde estás, el amor que destruye todo lo que conoces y, al mismo tiempo, construye algo nuevo, confrontando nuestra realidad.
The series also addresses love, but not from a romantic or idealized perspective. It shows that love is much more complicated than simply holding the hand of the person you love or giving a kiss. In the series, love is a recurring theme. In one episode, love is shown as something that makes you evolve, that pushes you to your limits, that makes you move from where you are. Love destroys everything you know, but at the same time, it builds something new, confronting our reality.
Ahora bien, debo hablar de la animación de esta serie, porque me parece una auténtica belleza. Es sublime, ¡me encanta todo! Cada capítulo presenta un estilo de animación diferente, y lo hace de manera extraordinaria. Incluso hay episodios que mezclan dos estilos de animación según lo requiera la acción. El hecho de que cada capítulo tenga un estilo de animación distinto le da dinamismo y elegancia, y el estilismo es una auténtica obra de arte. También se siente auténtica en su conjunto, ya que, como mencioné, cada capítulo se disfruta de manera independiente, pero eso no impide que la serie deje una huella global. He disfrutado mucho de esta serie, porque logra mezclar lo espectacular con lo introspectivo, la tecnología con la emoción humana, y lo sombrío con lo cómico.
Now, I have to talk about the animation in this series because I find it absolutely beautiful. It's sublime – I love everything about it! Each episode presents a different animation style, and it does so in an extraordinary way. There are even episodes that mix two animation styles depending on the action. The fact that each episode showcases a distinct animation style adds dynamism and elegance, and the stylism is a true masterpiece. The series also feels authentic overall. As I said, each episode can be enjoyed on its own, but that doesn't stop the series from leaving a lasting impression. I’ve truly enjoyed this series because it manages to blend the spectacular with the introspective, technology with human emotion, and the dark with the humorous.
Debo decir que no es una serie para niños, y no la vería si tengo niños en la sala, porque es una serie para adultos. Hay capítulos en los que se muestra mucha desnudez, y aunque sea animación, la desnudez puede ser bastante gráfica, por lo que no la recomendaría para ver con niños. Love, Death & Robots es una serie que no solo entretiene, sino que te hace pensar. En cada episodio encuentras algo diferente: a veces una crítica social, otras veces una reflexión profunda sobre la vida, y en ocasiones, simplemente una historia divertida.
I must say, this is not a series for children, and I wouldn’t watch it if I had kids in the room, because it's an adult series. There are episodes with a lot of nudity, and even though it's animated, the nudity can be quite graphic, so I wouldn't recommend watching it with kids. Love, Death & Robots is a series that not only entertains but also makes you think. In every episode, you find something different: sometimes social criticism, other times a deep reflection on life, and occasionally just a fun story.
