Old ideals applied to new technologies

With a little good will it is possible to bring high-speed internet to remote communities, but sometimes things seem like science fiction, as is the case with the Sceye HAPS project.

Using a flying aircraft similar to a blimp, this technological innovation promises to revolutionize the way we connect hard-to-reach areas, developed by the Roswell New Mexico-based Sceye Air Space company.

This airship runs on solar energy and was designed to float in the stratosphere, at an altitude of 190,000 to 215,000 meters. The Sceye HAPS, a helium-filled aircraft measuring 65 meters in length, not only retransmits broadband internet to communities, but also It also monitors the weather, observes natural disasters such as forest fires, and performs environmental measurements.

Successful trial and tests

This technology is already playing a key role in a New Mexico project that aims to bring internet to the Navajo Nation and is also involved in a study by the US Environmental Protection Agency to monitor metal emissions.

The first flights occurred in 2021 and impressive marks have already been achieved, such as maintaining an LTE data connection at a distance of more than 140 km, recently the aircraft demonstrated its ability to operate autonomously at night, using the energy obtained from the Sun and stored in its batteries, after a successful flight that lasted more than a whole day.

With a total of 20 test flights already carried out, the Sceye HAPS is quickly approaching its commercial use planned for 2025 but this technological race is just beginning, as other giants such as Alén Space and Lockheed Martin are also developing their own similar platforms. high altitude aircraft.

This new era of connectivity promises to transform lives and change the way we connect across the planet, because the future is literally floating above our heads.
