The Trough Farm Shop

https://www.silchesterfarm.co.uk/trough-farm-shop

Through our Berkshire Bimbles project (run by my wife and I) we will aim to visit every single Farm Shop in the area and have a little mosey around each one because Tina and I have been doing this for years, ever since we first met and carry on discovering great places to this very day.

A few weeks back we discovered that Silchester Farm have one of their own and that particular day was its first day of business, what's more, they are open daily from 9 till 6pm.

We thoroughly enjoyed a sausage roll, our daughter had a quiche which she highly rated and she is married to a chef, plus a really good cook in her own right. The coffee was great too. So we've decided to return another weekend when it might be a bit quieter. Their car park was quite literally overwhelmed ant the time and perhaps their ticket slot system didn't quite work as they'd expected.

So we went back a second time.

From what I could see through the quantity of people the first time we visited, was that they sell fresh veg, all of which is grown on site in their kitchen garden. Plenty of sauces, pickles, locally made alcoholic beverages including their very own gin.

Will post updates on each place we feature as we go back from time to time, you notice stuff you didn't see first time around.

Silchester Farm - Premium Craft Gin

I've written about the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum in the past, which is now the village of Silchester nearby, we shall take you there for one of our Bimbles soon and at some point in the future, we will be inviting you to join us on one by becoming paid subscribers - that's not rolled out yet though...

Anyway, the gin that Silchester Farm sell is called "Wingless Eagle" after the most significant find excavated by the University of Reading. It's thought that the eagle is a symbol of power, representing courage, strength and immortality.

The botanicals are all grown on site and we could see them today as we walked around.

There are a few farm shops around here, but we've not visited that many. We ought to support the local businesses. This is a good use case for WorldMapPin.

That’s what I was thinking, happy to map out farm shops, breweries, petting farms, nature reserves, independent businesses of all sorts.

Good pubs of course.

Seems that Worldmappin don’t want these posts. Therefore they will get no more from me and I withdraw my support for the project. Disappointing.

That's a shame. It seems like a missed opportunity.

Totally! It’s hardly a shopping mall and the project doesn’t have to be about exotic travel as in my mind that rules out many of the delights we get to visit in our spare time and local to us.

Very blinkered attitude @worldmappin

They do say you can pin posts, but just not put them in their community. Communities can be picky about what posts they accept.

I will do that then but post to other communities using the tag for pinned maps and the code etc.
