There was a time when being among the kids that have a phone capable of accessing Internet services, is a thing that brings unlimited happiness. This made every kid in my area disturb their parents to purchase a phone for them.
Many interesting sites existed during the early days of browsing phones. Sites like waptrick and wapdam. Lately, I tried to access waptrick but it didn't give me as much joy and thrill as it used to, so I left. The memory we have of these legendary sites is gradually fading as the year goes by.
I feel like hive should have a digital museum for old technology - apps and gadgets, where we can visit to re-live the old memories. Also, a museum where the new generation can see old techs and apps. Just a suggestion though.
During my kid days, phones existed but the phones were incapable of accessing internet, so, the fun activity we had was to play with each other. I always caught a cold anytime I play football under the rain.
The advent of browsing phones spoilt everything as 2go became the talk of the day, followed by Facebook. Most of my friends were flexing their phones bought for them by their parents, while my parents refused to buy a browsing phone for me, because they don't really trust the Internet.
Seeing my friends rock their Nokia phones that is capable of accessing 2go, waptrick and other sites while I remain stuck at the Nokia (I inherited from my day, lol) that has only snake game, and Nokia soccer, always makes me feel oppressed. But then, I can't do anything about it.
My mom saw my moody state, and she decided to talk to dad. After all said and done, dad finally got me my first browsing phone. My heart could not contain the joy in it. All I could think of is how to unbox the phone and start setting it ASAP.
The first thing I did was to download 2go. God I really loved that app. I can never forget my 2go username, Divirankin. It's a combination of one of my names, Divine, and a Nigerian musician, Patorankin.
The next day, when I met my friends, I showed them my new phone and they were all happy for me and we added each other in 2go.
There's this chat room they created where we will chat from morning to night and from night to morning. 24/7, I was always online chatting. The only time I was not able to chat was when I attend school as phones are not allowed in school. If phones were allowed in school, hehehe (in Rema's voice), total shut down. We would not even learn a thing.
Anytime I'm going to school or before I sleep at night, I will open 2go app, and keep my phone so that my rank will be increasing.
Waptrick, and wapdam was my go-to site any time I needed to download anything at all - be it pictures, music, applications, or videos. Those were the days when we rocked games like; modern combat, assassins creed, prince of persia, and many more.
From 2go, I began to explore Facebook but I didn't like Facebook that much cause' to me, it was more difficult to understand and navigate, so, I sticked with 2go for a long time, until I saw my friends migrating to Facebook. Because of my friends, I joined Facebook.
It was a lovely time, but then, i feel somewhat sad that 2go is not reigning as it used to. Welp, I used things fade.
