As clever, knowledgeable or whatever I may be here or there (at least that's what outsiders occasionally tell me [but then I like to reply with: “Those are just ‘insular talents’”])... It pisses me off how stupid and uneducated I am... I could puke over every deficient behavior of my brain....

At least...

At least I recognize my stupidity. That's a lot smarter than thinking I'm knowledgeable. It gives me a comforting perspective when I look at the Dunning-Kruger curve, but still doesn't help me...

How do you feel? Smart? Dumb?

I hope my friends are not to smart, but realistic dumb... (I hope you get the meaning behind...)

                    I didn't know about the Dunning-Kruger curve, that's interesting.
                    I think I have a clear idea of my level of incompetence, maybe I'm too confident about it?
                    But to overcome my incompetence I adopt very pragmatic trial-and-error strategies to progress step by step.

                          Interesting, isn't it? And once you know this curve, it is helpful for the own perspective on the own or other persons standing. Or to ask other big/fast/loud/"stupid" talkers: "Do you know the Dunning-Kruger effect?" lol The answer is very often "No". "Then check it out and try to reflect." my the next sentence (if I am in confrontation-mode). And interesting is: people who know this curve avoid to talk big/fast/loud, but say "I think I can't judge this." I personally like people more when they have a view but are careful with a meaning.

                          Yeah, the own categorization, the own rating, can drift away in a philosophical way, too. Especially when we see it in the sense of Aristotle(s?).

                          But at the end and as answer to your question (but my answer didn't count): I think it has it's benefits to have a solid confidence. And yes, be pragmatic in the own doing. Every error is a step on the way to the success. And when we combine it with for example the Dunning-Kruger curve, it may help us to stop do/think naiv things. What is not very good, but I often do, is to say "I am soooo stupid"... Yes, may be true, but it is manifesting in the ego, too. And who likes weak persons? I think the best is to say often: "I don't know if I can evaluate all needed factors, so I am careful with a meaning, judgement or also if my view on this topic makes sense." And I think this helps us more to be/see and think more open. And more open thinking can lead to a better view/evaluation/meaning/judgement. Bla bla bla and so on and so on and so on...

                          That is a really interesting topic!
