Hello CCH Community! I hope you are in fun mood yourself and we met in the most boring part of your day. Maybe this post can help you change your mood or be a little curious.
In my previous posts, I said that I work in the school's environmental club. Even if I didn't say it, I did now. -I have a bad memory. lol.-
The club held its first technical tour of the year on Monday. On technical tour, we usually visit places related to our profession. This could be a training seminar or a treatment plant. The place I will talk about in today's post is a solid waste disposal plant.
If you ask what is a solid waste disposal plant, we can briefly say that it is the place where the garbage is processed and treated. Here, the garbage goes through certain processes and electricity is produced. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to share photos about these processes. Therefore, I will not share the photos I took about the processes here. But I can talk about what the processes are. Or I can give some information about the solid waste disposal plant.
About 25 people visited the solid waste disposal plant. We were first given an introduction and we watched a few videos. In this presentation, the efficiency of the facility was mentioned in general.
The construction of the facility was worth approximately 500 million dollars. How very expensive isn't it? But the most important thing I've learned from the rest of my education so far is that investments in the environment often require a lot of money. Investors generally avoid environmental issues. There is a great reason for this. The income provided by the environment is unfortunately much less than the expense of the environment. This prevents investors from investing in this issue.
I have to admit that I got bored in some parts of the presentation. Because we have listened to some information over and over again. But the information given in these parts was important. So I don't see this as a problem. For example, they often repeated the amount of electricity produced at this facility. An average of 85 mW of electricity is produced per hour. That's a huge number.
At the end of the presentation, we took a photo to keep it as a memory for us. It was a good presentation. But the next part was much better in my opinion. Because we were going to observe the disposal processes.
They told us to use protective equipment before going down to the job site. That's why they gave each of us a vest and a helmet. The colors of the helmets have meanings. We wore white helmets because we are engineers. Also, since I used a helmet for the first time in my life, I did not know how to adjust the helmet. There were funny moments :D.
They said our helmets could fly in the wind on the way to the job site. That's why we adjusted our helmets to be the tightest. But we were lucky. There was hardly any wind.
We listened in detail to the collection, storage, burning and electricity production processes of garbage. But I think the part that interested me the most was the burning of garbage at a temperature of about 1000 degrees Celsius. In this photo, we are at the place where we came to see where the ashes that remained after the garbage was burned.
At the end of the technical tour, we took a souvenir photo at the entrance of the facility with the whole team and the person in charge. Honestly, I didn't expect the tour to be this good and fun. It was very enjoyable for me.

Kulüp yılın ilk teknik gezisini pazartesi günü düzenledi. Teknik gezilerde genellikle mesleğimizle ilgili yerleri ziyaret ederiz. Bu bir eğitim semineri ya da arıtma tesisi olabilir. Bugünkü yazımda bahsedeceğim yer bir katı atık arıtma tesisi.
Katı atık arıtma tesisi nedir diye soracak olursanız kısaca çöplerin işlendiği ve arıtıldığı yer diyebiliriz. Burada çöpler belirli süreçlerden geçiyor ve elektrik üretimi gerçekleşiyor. Bu süreçler hakkında fotoğraf paylaşmamız ne yazık ki yasak. Bu yüzden süreçler hakkında çektiğim fotoğrafları burada paylaşmayacağım. Ama süreçlerin ne olduğundan bahsedebilirim. Ya da tesis hakkında birkaç bilgi verebilirim.
Katı atık arıtma tesisine yaklaşık 25 kişi ziyarete gittik. Bize ilk olarak bir tanıtım yapıldı ve birkaç tane video izledik. Bu sunumda genel olarak tesisin veriminden bahsedildi.
Tesisin yapımı yaklaşık olarak 500 milyon dolar değerindeymiş. Ne kadar çok değil mi? Ama eğitimimin şu ana kadar olan kısmından öğrendiğim en önemli bilgi çevre ile ilgili yatırımların genellikle çok fazla para gerektiriyor olması. Yatırımcılar genellikle çevre ile ilgili konulardan kaçınıyorlar. Bunun büyük bir sebebi var. Çevrenin sağladığı gelir ne yazık ki çevrenin giderinden çok daha az. Bu da yatırımcıların bu konuya yatırım yapmasını önlüyor.
Sunumun bazı yerlerinde sıkıldığımı itiraf etmeliyim. Çünkü bazı bilgileri tekrar tekrar dinledik. Ama bu kısımlarda verilen bilgiler önemliydi. Bu yüzden bunu bir problem olarak görmüyorum. Mesela bu tesiste üretilen elektrik miktarını sıklıkla tekrar ettiler. Saatte ortalama olarak 85 mW elektrik üretiliyor. Bu da çok büyük bir sayı.
Sunumun sonunda bize bir anı olarak kalması için fotoğraf çekindik. Güzel bir sunumdu. Ama bundan sonraki kısım bence çok daha güzeldi. Çünkü arıtma süreçlerini gözlemleyecektik.
İş sahasına inmeden önce bize koruyucu ekipmanlar kullanmamızı söylediler. Bu yüzden her birimize birer adet yelek ve baret verdiler. Baretlerin renklerinin anlamları varmış. Biz mühendis olduğumuz için beyaz renkli baret taktık. Ayrıca hayatımda ilk kez baret kullandığım için baretin ayarını yapmayı bilmiyordum. Komik anlar yaşandı :D.
İş sahasına giderken baretlerimizin rüzgardan uçabileceğini söylediler. Bu yüzden baretlerimizin ayarını en sıkı olacak şekilde ayarladık. Ama şanslıydık. Neredeyse hiç rüzgar esmiyordu.
Çöplerin alıp depo edilmesini, yakılmasını ve elektrik üretim süreçlerini detaylıca dinledik. Ama benim en çok ilgimi çeken kısım sanırım çöplerin yaklaşık 1000 derece celsiusluk ısıda yakılmasıydı. Bu fotoğrafta da çöplerin yakıldıktan sonra geriye kalan küllerinin nerede depolandığını görmeye geldiğimiz yerdeyiz.
Teknik gezinin sonunda ise tüm ekip ve sorumlu kişiyle birlikte tesisin giriş kısmında hatıra fotoğrafı çektirdik. Açıkçası gezinin bu kadar güzel ve eğlenceli geçmesini beklemiyordum. Benim için çok keyifliydi.
