So we had a beautifully sunny and pleasant end of last week and weekend, it's the first sustained good spell of weather this year.
We usually have one or two decent sunny days in February, a few in March and then a few more in April, in fact sometime in March-April is when we usually get our first 2-3 days of nice sunny whether.
But not this year! It was a solidly wet and cold and generally grotty spring. I know because it's been so damp I've abandoned the allotment for this year, I just cannot face it!
Kind of winter like TBH, heating on for pretty much all of April.
Still, at least we had a nice weekend, four whole days since Thursday. I took this picture at around 7.15 a.m. on Saturday, nice huh..?!?
Everything has just suddenly sprang to life. I guess there is so much moisture in the ground all it takes is some sun and everything just pops.
The landscape looks just glorious, it's made for some really terrific early morning runs this last week just gone.
And we even got the Northern Lights...
From a friend in Surrey that one, not me!
I have unfortunately been mainly in the car during the days, and working, but I've had some nice early sunny mornings and early evenings on my own time to be outside, not a bad way to appreciate our first decent stretch of the year.
And now it's continuing into this week, partially sunny and high teens temperature, very pleasant with a mild breeze, kind of T shirt and light jacket weather, perfect!
But it just feels like such a short window~!
I dunno, it's like mid May already.... the solstice will be here in just five weeks, and in only 10 weeks you'll be able to distinctly FEEL the days getting shorter again.
It really feels this year like we've had 9 months winter and now we'll get 3 months summer, and then it's back to winter again.
And I must say I do prefer summer, everything is just SO much easier, and cheaper, and people are happier, and you can dry your clothes outdoors!
I just wish it had started a little bit earlier.
Even if we get an extended hot period into September, it's just not as pleasant as hot days in spring. The former are fresh and lovely and summer is still ahead, with evenings light.
When it's hot in September it's prone to be muggy, and with the evenings drawing in it just doesn't feel as joyous.
Better make the most of what's left of these early spring/summer days, I guess be thankful for what you get is the thing!
