How to Create a Collection of Your Posts as an Easily Referenced Archive on PEAKD.com ⛰️

in #hive3 years ago

It's been a lonnnng time since I've written a 'how to' post on HIVE, because I kinda forget there's newbies around that might not be aware of all the groovy features our favourite HIVE front ends might have! Me, I'm a Peakd.com user and since they arrived on the scene, I always have been. Whilst switching to a new front end can be hard at first, once you get to know it, you won't look back! Of course, other front ends have their benefits too - LeoFinance for example is a great front end for the crypto finance crew, enabling them to earn LEO with every post.

But if you want to curate or archive your posts so they are easy to find, here's how to do it. The great thing is that you only need to create a specific collection once. For example, you might have a series of ten posts about gardening, or you write a poem every few weeks. When you've written hundreds of posts in your lifetime on HIVE, it can be really tedious scrolling through them all to find the specific article you might want to refer someone too.

Now, Peakd's search engine has gone a LOT better and I can usually find someone's post okay, but what if you wanted to read their whole collection, say, on 'How to Build a Mushroom Farm?' or their fiction to date on HIVE? Or what if you want to refer someone else to the series you wrote on travelling through Mongolia? It's something that's come up with a few people lately that didn't know this function existed, so it struck me it was easier to write a post than to separately comment on each one!

Hope this helps!

Here's how you do it.

1. First of all, create a POST that's actually a COLLECTION.

It's very much intuitive. You'll find that each link to a post you create in there gives a highlight of the post, as per the second image below. Just don't delete the placeholder. Once published, anyone can vote on it just like normal. It'll also appear in your 'COLLECTIONS' tab on PEAKD.

You can add a preferred cover image and little comments on each post, or just drop them all in as a list, fuss free.

See the yellow highlighted 'Collections'? You will see it appear there, and you can also add to your 'all posts', of course, like usual.

2. Add subsequent posts to the Collection easily...

Now, say you write another post that fits this collection. For me, it's poetry. This week I wrote a poem, and want to add it the collection. After publishing, just click the little dots and hit 'add to curated collection'.

image.png

A box appears, and you can choose which collection you'd like to add it to, and whether it's before or after the other posts. You can also add a little comment if you like, such as 'a poem I wrote in response to Ukraine' or whatever suits.

Or, you can start a new collection! Too easy

Ok - this is gold!! 😍

There can never be enough HOW TO posts in Hive - not for me, anyway. 😉

I had no idea one could do this.... and I'm thrilled. Presumably one can PROMOTE one's Thai Herbs collection (for instance) in the footer of other content??

Before I forget, I CAN"T FIND the spot for creating a new account using my own resource credits... is that feature gone? I did it once before but now I CAN'T FIND IT anymore. Needing to set up the account to cover all things podcast, for promoting via Linkedin etc. 😘

Gosh I haven't created a new account in ages. I'll look for you.

Presumably one can PROMOTE one's Thai Herbs collection (for instance) in the footer of other content??

Yes. Brilliant!!! Remember those who write the long hyperlinked lists of all similiar content? Now they need only write 'FIND MY OTHER HERBAL WISDOMS HERE'

Too easy!

Thanks for making this post and streamlining it all for me. I've been to shy to try this feature out and i have kinda steered clear whenever i see collections. Now, it makes a lot more sense. The visual aids really helped. I have a couple of 'how to' posts and it would be nice to just put them in a How-To collection. Thanks again!

I'm sorry I forgot to reply!!! Glad you got use out of it! Awesome!

No worries! It's hard to keep up with comments most of the time! hahaha Cheers.

It is indeed! Grateful!

Thanks for sharing this "How To" post, @riverflows. I will surely use this once I finished up my collection. 😊

awesome 👍

Have you ever used this feature on PEAKD?

Not yet, I will bookmark this to do a collection of my travel posts, garden posts.

Good idea! I should do my travel ones too!!

Wonderful! I had no idea this existed. Now where did the bookmark feature go? I used that A LOT.

Omg you are right!! I can't find it either!

Didn't know about it! I have frequently gone through my filed posts (I have a copy of every post on my computer and some even made it into file, but not for the last 1.5 years...) and made a list on a reply to someone who has asked for info.

This is handy to have the collections already made. Maybe some day when I haven't anything better to do... But in future, if I can remember, maybe I will do this next time someone asks for something..

Thanks @riverflows !

It's PERFECT for you! Maybe a job for next winter when it's too snowy and cold to do much else. X

Aha! I'm just thinking of how to put my posts on similar topics in one place so that it may be easy for me to find. This is super helpful. Thank you for sharing!

No worries. It's SUCH a handy tool! Once it's set up it's so easy to add as you go. I need to do my fiction and my travel posts.

Great info, with easy to follow instructions @RiverFlows... 😎 Even we old-timers on the chain can use some helpful hints like these...

Ha I wrote newbies PERFECTLY aware that it's old timers who have the posts to archive and still haven't figured out how! 😂

😏 Ya Sneaky little devil...

This is great, I would love to be able to keep all my poems together. I'll be bookmarking this one. Thank you beautiful one xxxx

Oh yes PERFECT for your poems!!!

Cool. 🙂 Didn't notice this option before. Thanks.

There's lots of great features on Peakd!

I have just started doing this because I have so much work ... storylines that really do need to be together ... art ... it's a lot and this really helps...

oh yes I'm just collating my fiction posts now as I always go to find them and it's impossible, especially as I forget the titles!

I always save a copy in my word processor to help me with that ... but, after a while, even THAT doesn't help, so I STILL have to come here and collect!

Finally I did it! Yes, I remember way back when, you told me about this cool function, and I even looked into it... without actually trying it. The next step is obvious: it completely escaped my mind, and I kept on putting links at the bottom of my posts, extending the list further and further. Well, not any longer. I started making my own collections. Thanks for the reminder. I really needed it apparently.

Awesome! And now you can avoid the big lists! So cool.

Great tutorial!

I think having this collections option has been really helpful for referring posts. I always try to make how to posts periodically because as you stated we have many newbies arriving each day and they need to learn.

I did set up a How To Collection already but I just need to remember to add to it to keep it updated :D

I used to do them all the time. Given the reception of this post, I should do more!

Absolutely you should!

Excellent post @riverflows but it won't let me do it. I don't know what error it has. Here are my doubts:
Place to create my collection and ask me:
Enable Curated Collections?

I clicked on confirm and it appears confirm transation

image.png

Then I click on approve and tells me:

Your transaction was not successfully broadcasted

Sorry for the inconvenience, I don't know what the error is.

I would be very grateful for any further explanation. I am interested in placing my posts and ordering them
