The News

It has been another week of red in the crypto markets. $HIVE suffers along with the others. I hope some people bought at the bargain prices. You have to keep playing the long game and do what you can to make this platform a success.

Prices from @coingecko

I found this CCN article (that is CCN, not CNN!) compiling some price predictions from various sources. They all show some improvement this year, but it has to be speculation really. They say 'Hive did not respond to a request for comment', but who did they ask? They also say 'There is no single entity or organization that controls the network'. That is a strength as it should not die just because someone pulls out. We do depend a lot on certain people for core development, but there are lots of teams developing dapps.

Friday Follows

  • It seems that I helped to inspire a Nigeria meetup by @fokusnow. That is exactly what I want the country lists to kick off. More Hivers have met others on the platform and that will lead to more inspiration.
  • @demotruk is a Hive OG who does great stats posts. We need to see where we have been to work out where we are going.
  • My friend @molometer has been less active here lately, but just posted from France where he has less internet access.
  • @bostonadventures is a fellow runner in the US who writes about other topics such as gardening.

The Dog House

First of all I do not want anyone to think I am down on @ecency. I am a long-term user of the mobile app. I have this shirt (and a hat) from the days of their previous incarnation. This is more about the activities of the users.

eSt--m shirt

Ecency have their own microblogging option called Waves that has some similarities to Threads on InLeo. It looks like a lot of people use that as their primary outlet. I just think that it alone will not get them far on this platform as their content will be invisible to the majority of Hive users. Even if you do not want to write long blogs you can still 'consume' them and engage with people in comments. That may gain you some followers, but in the single Waves stream you are competing with a lot of people for votes and I doubt many big players are looking.

I still think that microblogging has value, but having multiple options for it on Hive means the attention is divided. I do use Waves and Threads a little, but it is a small part of my Hive activity.

Another part of Ecency is their points. You can earn those through activity and win some each day by spinning a wheel. You can also buy them for fiat, but I am not sure they can be traded like other second layer tokens. It used to be that you could pay with them to get votes, but vote buying is discouraged on Hive. Now you can buy delegation with them. Some people get excited by winning some, but the value is tiny and I tend to get more from activity. I see more value in what you can earn from people voting on your content and would encourage people do be active.

I had someone say they were only winning a single point and that they were not earning much from posts, but then they only joined last month, had no followers and all their comments were on Waves. You have to promote yourself on Hive to get anywhere and genuine engagement can pay off. You should not just use one dapp as they each have benefits.

The End

Hive activity has decreased lately. That could allow those who stay to earn more $HIVE, but I would rather see more people posting. As I said at the start it is a long game. If you keep stacking HP and voting then you are earning as well as helping others. It can be fun too. Hive is social, so make some new friends!

Rewards of the Beast!

Hehe, go Steve Harris, go!!

I'm a bit sorry that Hive has gone down with its price but I'm not really here for the money so it's not a real problem for me. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and more. If the community is strong, it will repay in the long run 💪🏻

Anything you make now could increase in value, so stay active. As I say, it can be fun. I really hope to see more musicians join up and bring in some fans. On Hive those 'likes' have value.

One thing I love most about Ecency is the fact that we can earn points and make use of it to boost our accounts
It will be very good for new accounts so that as long as they engage, they can earn points and boost their accounts with it

But I was making the point that just earning points is not necessarily adding value. Value comes from interacting with people. Points are an extra incentive, but not a high value one. You will never be big on Hive just from points.

You’re right
It’s a way to start for the newbies but can never be enough for those who have been there for so long😁😁

I am one of those who has not posted in awhile. Partly availability to time to write and partly access to the internet. Thanks for sharing.

Always informative cheers @steevc

While I think Hive performerd a bit better as the other tokens on the chain especially around Splinterlands where all my assets go to the bin as expected :-) - I have again at least 30k Hive but not sure I wanna play the game again to power-up - maybe parts

I'm debating what to do with my Splinterlands assets. The value has really dropped from the peak. I think they made it too complex and expensive. I will keep building my HP as I know what to do with it. At least the value went back up a little today.

Staying active on Hive and engaging across dapps really does make a difference over time. But you're absolutely right brother, I try to make some wave and threads but it's difficult to do more on one when attention in divided. Well I just do what feels ok at the moment but loving the Ecency App it makes engagement so easy and fun

If it's fun then keep doing it, but people should not rely on points to really earn much.

Absolutely for me, I used to focus on points but now I've switched. I understand the true value of engagement and quality blogging. Thank you Steve because there's something you did for me and it skipped me to tell you.

Two major advice you gave me.

  1. Don't spend all day online and now I get sometime to workout which is helping.

  2. I remember a couple months ago when I was a fresh newbie I asked for friend request from you and you weren't really interested in wrestling blogs. Well that actually caused me to rethink. Sometimes although it's about niches you like, sometimes to grow you need to focus on what could work best. I took your advice a couple of months ago and started going on good niches. I've made over 200 plus friends and today I've become a minow. Thank you very much brother. You taught me well even if it was a short comment reply 🙏

Congratulations! Hard work and dedication pays off as well as being opened minded. You put all of that into practice.. That is awesome.

Thank you brother I'm very honored to hear this from you, definitely going to add you to my friend here hehehehe nice meeting you

We each find our own path, but I see people here concentrating on the wrong things. Hive offers opportunities, but it takes work to earn.

No doubt brother no doubt it took some serious work to get here and I'm proud to have taken that advice thanks a lot✊🙏

Thank you so much for that inspiration to take off. We are really planning a big coordinated marketing event starting from my city. The meetups will now be held once every month . We dont just want to grow in number, we hope everyone will always look forward to the gathering.

You have to promote yourself on Hive to get anywhere and genuine engagement can pay off. You should not just use one dapp as they each have benefits.

This is one thing I like to teach newbies. Patience, consistency and engagement. Hive is not some get-rich-quick stuff. But with the right attitude and strategy, a newbie could eventually become more valuable.

Thanks again for the mention. Will always welcome it.

You have the right attitude. I do think that people are sold the idea of Hive with the wrong expectations. Not everyone will make it big, but everyone can earn something.
