Why you should follow through when you commit !!

in #hive-166408last year

The days keep running so faster these few months. Every single day that passes reminds me that we're going towards the end of the year.
I have never been more concerned about the days running so fast than how I feel about it these days.
Most times what bothers me most is the goals I've set for the year, how good am doing in achieving them.

Recently my attention got drawn to a reply in one of my posts in this community where a friend expressed his concern on the fact that most of us know what is right but what really matters is whether we are doing that right thing. That's a very sincere and true fact of life. His comment on the post got me thinking for several days. It really got me thinking that life can be such a paradox some of the times. And most of our pains and regrets are actually self induced. And even more unfortunately, most are due to our harshness to ourselves.
My reply to him was simply "we are all humans right ?, I keep trying my best daily to see how I can be up and doing everyday" I know I replied him something similar to that. I have not seized to think about that comment since that time.

Truly, most of us if not all of us know what is right, we know what is good for us. And even when we're not doing well with regards to our expectations of ourselves we know that as well.
I've also had failures on my own part, dealing with habits cannot be easy, Especially when it's something that is seemingly harmless to you. Sometimes most of us out of frustration just give up fighting or trying to get better. I had given up many times. But then you know this is not you, you just can't deal with this. And even more when some these issues are not things you can boast of or gladly tell someone about, more bitter is when they are things that are not welcomed by the general society. But I think it even gets more worst when we can't cope with these things we call negatives i.e our personal view of ourselves doesn't agree with the act or behavior but yet we can't help it.

We end up struggling between resolutions, decisions, reaffirmations, and acceptance amidst guilt and an inner yearning for a better life. And then our daily wish, "Just if we can be more in control."

Recently I began to look at the connection between discipline and freedom. Two very difficult things to achieve. To most of us they're two paths of life that are very parallel to each other. Yet a closer peep into these two will reveal a very close relationship between them. Most of my so called little victories and small wins began from the realization that discipline gives us freedom, and we can only maintain freedom as long as we remain disciplined. Looking closely we realize that misuse of our freedom is our shortest way to slavery, slavery to self and poison to our conscience.

What this realization has done for me is me loving myself better, and even more better, being there for myself when I have to.
And this brings me to the fact that alot of us want to be loved. We want people to show up for us when we call on them, infact we also show up for others, but when it come to ourselves the reverse is the case.
I believe one major part of self love is being able to show up for ourselves when we make plans. We had set those plans after taking time to consult with ourself right, and just like you make plans with someone, the most important part is showing up for each other after commitment.

It's so surprising how we neglect these little areas of our lives which if I'm permitted to say fortunately, forms what most of our happiness depends on.

So about plans, decisions, quiting bad habits, resolutions, and all forms of commitments, it's very important that when we commit we follow through, we show up for ourselves because that's one of the true sign that we love ourselves. And if we can show up for others, it's much more important that we show up for ourselves.
