We Are Alive! Roasting Green Coffee Beans

in #aliveandthriving8 hours ago

Every January around my birthday, I use a special coupon online with coffeeproject.com to purchase raw coffee beans. Getting them raw means I can store them for years and years and in the right conditions, they will stay perfectly fresh and ready for roasting any time.

Uncertain Blend

My favorite green coffee beans to purchase is called "Uncertain Blend". Explained as various beans that spill from multiple bags, collected and sold all together. It's their most affordable bean ($5.00/lb) and knowing how many fancy (and expensive) beans they sell, I know this variety of coffee beans will be high quality. I've always been happy with the outcome.

Any Expensive Beans in There?

Among their offerings, the Coffee Project sells "the world's most expensive coffee" which is the Wild Arabica Kopi Luwak. Valued at about $150/lb.

Perhaps there are some in my "uncertain" blend? Who knows? Could be!

https://coffeeproject.com/products/wild-arabica-kopi-luwak

These premium raw beans are found "excreted" from the wild Asian Palm Civet. Yes, they're found in poop. I hope they wash them well.

Wild Arabica Kopi Luwak is one of the rarest and most expensive coffees in the world. It is produced using a unique process where wild Asian palm civets (Luwak in Indonesian) consume ripe Arabica coffee cherries, digest the fruit, and excrete the beans. The beans undergo fermentation inside the civet’s digestive system, which is believed to enhance their flavor by reducing bitterness and adding a smooth, complex profile. (ChatGPT)

You can never be CERTAIN what is in the UNCERTAIN blend. A fun amount of mystery with my green coffee roasting experience.

Spilling the Beans

I pour a good amount of green "uncertain" coffee beans into a pan on high heat. After less than a minute, the green beans begin to turn yellow/orange.

As they begin to roast, I can begin to smell the aroma of roasting coffee. I hear the first "crack" and it's a sign that they are progressing in the roasting process.

They turn from yellow/orange to a light brown. They're getting closer!

As they darken, I start to see smoke - a good sign. But not too smoky, that means they're burning!

Once the color looks about right, I take them off the heat and spray them with a mist of water to cool them down. My wife helps me by taking them outside to remove the chaff and cool them down in the cold.

Because there is a variety of beans, different sizes and types, they usually will not roast with a consistent dark color, there are always some lighter and darker. That's ok. I'm CERTAIN it will make a good grind once they rest for a while.

I put them on a paper towel to dry and rest a bit.

These beans are at least 5 years old (maybe older) but they still smell just as good as fresh as when they were first imported. These are some of my oldest beans, my newest ones are still in boxes.

Beautiful light roasted beans! I could have roasted them further, making them black, but it produces too much smoke for my family. So, lightly roasted they are!

I put them in a jar, this is enough for maybe two or three cups of STRONG coffee, using the pour-over method.

I roast my coffee, while enjoying my morning coffee. I'm drinking a certain blend, roasted and ground at some facility somewhere. It may not be as unique as "coffee project" coffee, but it's enjoyable just the same.

Once these beans rest a while, usually overnight, they'll be ready to be ground and made into a delicious uncertain coffee drink, certain to get the day started well!

Bless the Most High for delicious home-roasted coffee!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

This is amazing, I had no idea roasting at home was that easy! I worked at a coffee shop for a bit and they roasted in a coffee roaster and the guy always made it seem nearly impossible even in the machine that was made for the job. I'm going to check that company out.

lolol, ok, these guys are funny too...

That looks awesome actually, in a french press that would be amazing.
I have never roasted coffee beans but when I lived in Hawaii I would ocassionally purchase cacao pods (chocolate) roast those and make a hot cacao beverage usely with some red pepper in it to add some spice.

Very interesting, I think I could almost smell them roasting.

I would be better off not knowing if the poop beans were in there.
