It is race week!
With the big event on Sunday, the preparation is mostly done!
During this last week I am trying to rest a bit, stack some carbs and do some light recovery runs.
Sofar my weekly total stands on 30km (from three easy runs) so i might do one last recovery runs either tomorrow or the day after so I can have some fun on Sunday.
trainingsblock
This marathon is part of my trainingsblock for Rotterdam in April. The last 2 months I plan to do more structured compared to this event. Here the focus is on enjoying the beautiful landscape, doing my first trail marathon and just finishing the route.
For Rotterdam it is different, that is my revanche for last year! Rotterdam usually sells out within an hour, in 2024 I missed out on the general sale. So I set my mind on a marathon 2 months later. 2 weeks before the Rotterdam marathon started I was able to get a ticket from someone else. I ran and finished the marathon with +/- 5 weeks preparation (finished 3:50:00) and messed up my knee. Rotterdam is my hometown so I wanted to get my revanche - but once a year means you need to recover and stay active.
So in October I ran Amsterdam again - that also happened to be my first marathon 10 years ago! Training went very well, but got COVID in the week before the event. Had to settle for 3:40:00 - while aiming for 3:20:00.
Covid also played a role in this trainingsblock , my heartrate stayed unusually high during easy runs until mid December. From the second half of December I felt like the old me, and was able to add some miles.
For this Sunday run, I feel great! Did 9 quality weeks of training (yes, less weeks than I would prefer) and did 1 run above 30km (also less than usual) but I am ready. No real injuries but also not the pressure of having to reach a specific time!
Ready to have some fun!
Today’s run:
Slow and steady was the key for today! Just focussing on keeping the heartbeat low so the run will benefit the recovery process!
For today the weather forecast called for rain. I was glad to go out and find pretty enjoyable weather instead.
Happy running!
